Hey everyone –
I know you have been waiting a long time for an update about the Spy School movie — and I am sure this is not what you were hoping for. It’s certainly not what I was hoping for.
After 54 weeks of doing nothing with the movie script, Disney decided that they were not going to move forward with the Spy School movie.
Why? I don’t really have a great answer for that. I was told that Disney had some concerns with the story involving kids in real danger — which you’d think they would have been able to figure out was part of the plot long ago, given the title.
Sadly, this kind of thing happens a lot in Hollywood. As I keep saying, it is very hard to get a movie made.
This does not mean the movie will never get made. My agents can now try to set the project up at another movie studio or streaming service. We will see what happens.
In the meantime, feel free to write angry letters to Disney or cancel your Disney + accounts in protest.
I love your spy books but can I ask you this one question will erika and ben ripely get married, I’m only on the 9th book
while re reading the books i’ve noticed some of your word choice is a little out of the ordinary. what particularly intrigues me is your use of the word “come to” instead of regaining consciousness. is there any reason for the choice?
Hey Gibbs! I just read SSGW and I love it! Sorry for the movie being cancelled but I know it will come. Keep trying!
I love the Spy School series and I hope you keep on writing books about it. The series is by far one of the most phenomenal and interesting books I have ever read, I hope I can be a writer or publisher when I grow up and this series has made me better at achieving that goal. As long as you keep writing these books I will keep reading them and following your steps as you go. I hope for the movie Spy School. Thanks!
When is the thirteenth book going to happen and what will it be called?
how did you think of Zoe being gay
PLEASE READ MR STUART GIBBS!!!
ok so I’m 11 and I’m OBSESSED WITH SPY SCHOOL LIKE OBSESSED…I have 2 questions…
If you do post auditions for a coming movie how old would you have to be to audition for Erica….its my dream role and I’ve been dreaming of it since 2020 I was only 5 when I read the first book and I fell in love with it..My other question is I know Disney didn’t move forward with the movie…but did you try Netflix???..I’m sure they would fall in love with the idea just as many kids INCLUDING ME fell in love with the spy school series!
Mackenzie V –
Unfortunately, I have tried netflix multiple times — and any other Hollywood studio or streaming network you can think of.
In addition, until a movie is greenlit, there will be no information about casting. That will be up to the casting director.
Hi, Mr. Gibbs. I’m in seventh grade and have read the ss, mba, and the funjungle series. Honestly, all the books are amazing, I love the growth of each character and just wanted to say that even if your books don’t get turned into movies, don’t get too down. You’re a great author and make sure to take some breaks for just you. (And your family) Bye!
Liz –
Thanks so much for your kind thoughts.
Hi Mr. Gibbs-
I read the funjungle series and i’m IN LOVE WITH IT!!!!! and quick question- is there any way that there can be a BELLY UP MOVIE???? Please? or is there one coming out? Also I am your biggest fan!!
dearest Mr Gibbs
I am so sorry that Disney declined your spy school request! but I love fun jungle also so could you make a graphic novel for belly up? please respond
(ps I am the biggest funjungle fan EVER!)
Batman –
I would love for there to be a Belly Up movie but I have never had a studio express any interest in this at all.
big back
There is a chance that there could be some FJ graphics in the future, but it won’t be any time soon.
Hello Stuart! I love the spy school books, I have read every single one! I think that I would be absolutely perfect for the role as chip! Especially because I am around his age(14) and almost 6ft and workout regularly. If you ever get a movie in the works, and somehow you read this comment, please email me if you are looking for a role for chip. Also if it didn’t workout with Disney, maybe try Netflix? P.S. I love your other series especially the Moon base ones.

Eugene Rhyu –
As noted in the post before this, I will have very little say in casting for the movie — if it ever gets made at all. I cannopt email everyone who asks to be considered. If there is an open casting call, I will post details about it on tis website.
I have tried Netflix. Over and over again. And any other studio you can think of. I’m still trying though.
Hello Mr gibbs! i am a big fan of spy school and i really hope you keep writing them because they are really good but could you stop the lesbian it kinda distracts me from the plot of the story so ya. I hope you are doing well.
max –
Do the hetereosexual crushes also distract you from the plot? Because there have been plenty of those in the series. Just wondering.
How many books are you planning on making
idk –
How many books am I planning on writing in my life? I don’t think any author knows the answer to that.
Hi Stuart I really like spy school and so does my class mates in Aics [ Amsterdam International school.} We where wondering when 13 th book is coming
Class Seven I
Book 13 is coming in october 2025.
For future reference, all upcoming release information can be found in the Upcoming Releases box on every page of this website.
Hey Mr Gibbs, I know that the spy school movie is taking forever, so i had an idea. What if i made a spy school movie on youtube? I would need your permission because they are your characters and ideas. Maybe at some point you could have a cameo or something. Lemme know, Thanks! (I would be Ben ripley cuz lots of people say i look exactly like the graphic novel version)
Endrik Santos –
Unfortunately, I can’t let other people make the movie because that will actually impact getting a studio to agree to make the movie. Sorry.
Sebastian –
While I appreciate your enthusiasm, it is very difficult to take suggestions from readers.
Since there are many other locations besides Yellowstone, I probably will not set another book there.
And since I did away with SPYDER, I don’t think I will bring them back.
If you can not make a movie on Disney then try Netflix
Luca Serrano –
If you can think of a company that makes movies, I have tried it already.
Hey Stuart. I looked up a lot of movie companies, and there is a lot of small companies that not many people know of, and i think if you ask them, they will probably accept. And im sure that loads of people would love to see a spy school movie, so here are some companies. Fox searchlight pictures, miramax, new line cinema, apple studios, a24, amblin entertainment, dreamworks (i dont know about that one) lionsgate pictures, summit entertainment, and STX pictures. Btw i love ur books good job!
chanan –
I appreciate you trying to help, but I have a whole team of agents working on this whose job is to know all the movie companies. The ones you have listed are not small. Many of them are branches of other studios. And none of them have agreed to make the SS movie… yet. But my agents are still trying.
Hey, why not you bring back the spy school in the next book? It was a great setting, and Chip and Jawa were mentioned by Ben riply’s thoughts in the spy school goes wild book. Also, bring back a character like Ashley in the next book. She got away in the 10th book, and bringing her back would be great.
If the movie was accepted by some movie-going company, do you know how long it may possibly take to be produced and published? I get if you don’t.
James –
Keep in mind that when I made the decisions to do away with the spy school or to cut out various characters, I did not do it without much thought. I am trying to keep the books fun and interesting — and I can’t have every character i have ever created in every book. I know people liked the school as a setting, but i also know that it might have gotten old after a while.
Cameron –
Probably the fastest a movie could be cast, filmed, edited and released is about two years.
Hi Stuart. I just wanted to ask, after All Ears, can you make a FJ book featuring Monkey Mountain? Just a suggestion. But I think it would be nice.
Vincent Qi –
There have been mysteries in the FJ series involving chimps (Poached) and orangutans (Big Game) as well as the short story Monkey Business in Super Puzzletastic Mysteries, so Monkey Mountain has been in several FJ mysteries already.
Dear Stuart Gibbs,
I love your books, they are very entertaining, action packed, and awesome!
When I read the acknowledgements I was so sorry to hear about your wife. I know that must be really hard. I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for all the amazing books you have published, and for continuing to bring great books and story’s to the industry.
Sincerely,
Finn
P.S.
I loved how you made zoe bi to include everybody. All love is real love!
I have an idea, i’ve done some commercials for this agency and they do movies as well. Try reaching out to Frontrunner.
Hi Mr. Gibbs! I really hope Disney changes their minds, because it would be really great to have a spy school movie! The casting would just have to be done right. I think it would be a really good movie, seeing as the books are so good.
I have a question, which you may have answered before, so sorry about that – do you know what will be the next spy school book after Blackout?
I guess I have some ideas, but that would be kind of rude. So I’ll just say that I hope it will be great (which it probably will be)!
I know that Chip and Jawa might be considered old characters, but they were still good characters. In the twelfth book, Ben almost revealed where Jawa and Chip were to the principal, but caught himself. Plus, I think it was not a good idea to make them jump off the bridge suddenly in the tenth book, because they were part of the story until then, as then they were removed completely. They were good students, and they were even better than Mike in my opinion, so I don’t know why they were removed. Please bring them back
By the way, I now agree with you about Ashley and the school after rereading the tenth book. They were old, and should have been removed.
Finn –
Thanks for your kind thoughts.
Endrik –
From what I can tell, Frontrunner is not really a movie production studio along the lines of what would be needed to make a big budget movie. They seem to do mostly commercials and films for companies.
Aya –
I am currently working on the SS book after Blackout, so I have some good ideas for it — and for the next book as well.
James –
I can’t include every character that I have ever created in every book that I write.
Pierce –
There are characters that always return in the SS books. But I don’t want to reveal which ones will be back because that can ruin the surprises of reading.
Pierce –
Authors work very hard on everything that we write, so I don’t think any one of us would say that anything we have written is better than anything else we have written.
I know, but those two characters were special. They were great characters, so why did you have to remove them. You said you had to limit the characters, but you put in Svetlana. And she grew the chast. If there was another world destabilizing plot, like installing a virus to crash major sites like safari and google, and the guy doing this is the strongest one yet, Cyrus get chip and Jawa to join to stop this villan. They are originally supposed to leave after destroying the vi?an, but Cyrus decides to keep them. That is an idea for book 13.
James –
I did not want to remove them. I really tried to make them work in the story. But they didn’t work out, whereas Svetlana did.
Also, book 13 is pretty much written and will be out this fall.
They still can. I can name some ways that they can fit in for book 14 if you want. Like maybe Cyrus decides to grow the training program or somone forces him to or the program gets shut down. The second one would be better, because Cyrus is a stubborn person ?. If you go that, make it only those two and maybe one other adult. Cause if it is top secret, you can grow it without any other person knowing.
James –
I know this is going to sound rude but: Stop. I Get it. You want them to come back. But this is my series and I promise you, I have put several thousand more times thought into it than you have. I simply can’t take suggestions from readers.
Why though? Many authors, movie directors, and game developers have taken audience feedback on their product. Some of these people are Stephen King, Colleen Hoover, James Cameron, Nitendo, and Rockstar Games. At least hold surveys when making books in the future. Audience feedback is important. We can help too!
