Bad news about the Spy School movie — for now

Hey everyone –

I know you have been waiting a long time for an update about the Spy School movie — and I am sure this is not what you were hoping for.  It’s certainly not what I was hoping for.

After 54 weeks of doing nothing with the movie script, Disney decided that they were not going to move forward with the Spy School movie.

Why?  I don’t really have a great answer for that.  I was told that Disney had some concerns with the story involving kids in real danger — which you’d think they would have been able to figure out was part of the plot long ago, given the title.

Sadly, this kind of thing happens a lot in Hollywood.  As I keep saying, it is very hard to get a movie made.

This does not mean the movie will never get made.  My agents can now try to set the project up at another movie studio or streaming service.  We will see what happens.

In the meantime, feel free to write angry letters to Disney or cancel your Disney + accounts in protest.

If you can think of a movie studio or streaming service, they have already been approached about SS.

  2. Hello Mr. Gibbs, I would like to make a weird suggestion. Have you ever thought about making it an anime? If it ever does cross your mind I have some suggestions for example, mappa studios, with studios, madhouse, and toei animation.

  3. JoJo –

An anime is certainly a possible idea — but I’ve had no luck there either.

  4. hey mr gibbs. if the spy school movie gets approved by a movie studio, can you post the casting calls on the blog? my dream role is ben ripley and i am an actor. thanks!

It probably would cost around twenty million dollars, minimum, to film the movie. I do not have a spare twenty million dollars to hire some people and film it. That’s why I need a studio involved.

  6. Hi Mr. Gibbs
How can I become an author like you? do you have any tips or tricks to do so? I really like your SS series!

  7. SS for eva

I have an entire page of writing advice on this website that ought to answer your questions.

  8. Mr. Gibbs
I just want to let you know that me, my friends, and my family are rooting for you in any kind of way. We all love your books and really support you. Hopefully there will be a SS movie. You are a legend when it comes to book writing I also love your Charlie Thorne series, the fun jungle. Were rooting for you!

  9. Mr. Gibbs I have a question, could we maybe start a petition and send it to Disney+ or also do a negotiation with Disney saying that we can just put the filter for PG-13. My Parents keep taking my books because they say I don’t go outside too much so I read outside! I have read spy school since I was 9 and have been repeatedly reading them starting from book 1 you are awesome and good luck!

  10. Hewo –

I don’t think that corporations are that responsive to petitions like this. But thanks for being a fan.

  11. Berica –

For upcoming release information, please see the ‘Upcoming Releases’ box on every page of this website.

  12. I agree with Hewo I know you cant do a petition because the streaming services might nob be compatible with that, but what if you compromised with Disney and say that you could just put it on the filter of PG-13, there are literal 8 YEAR OLDS READING SPY SCHOOL and Disney has a problem with that? To me I think that’s just bananas. Good luck though

  13. Olive –

If Disney wants to figure out a way to do this, then they will figure out a way to do it. These decisions are up to them to make.

  14. Dear mr gibbs can you add a secne where ben knocks out Joshua hallal but erica belives ben drugged him they get into an argumant where erica handcuffs him to get the truth but ben say that erica is his girlfriend and they schould work toghter but they dont break up

  15. henry –

I truly appreciate your enthusiasm, but it is extremely difficult for me to take suggestions from readers.

  16. Hey I think that your books are awesome and I can’t believe that Hollywood won’t do a movie! But can you write more spy school books please

    Erica and Svetlana are even.

Alexander is still probably better, except where camouflage is concerned.

  19. dear Mr.Gibbs I really enjoy your books I’m a 10y and thay are really cool but I wish there was more audiobooks tho I hope you can make a movie!

  20. Dear Stuart Gibbs,
I really hope that the Spy School movie will be made! No offense to you or any studios, but I feel like the movie won’t live up to its expectations because the books are the best ever (in my opinion) and people will probably think that the movie is going to be amazing. I am really hoping and praying; also, could you say when and where auditions are because I’m an actress. Sorry; you’ve probably heard that a million times. Anyway, love all of your books; you’re my favorite author and have wrote many of my favorites. Thank you for your time and have a great day or night. Also, you should come to Idaho for a book signing.

  21. L&L&K

If there are open auditions, I will post about them.

It’s been a long time since I was invited to Idaho for book events. I would love to come back.
