The exclusive edition of Space Case, the Graphic Novel, is available for pre-order! (And you can see some character art here too.)

I admit, I failed to get the news out about the exclusive edition of All Ears very far ahead of time — so I am trying to do better with the new, amazing graphic novel edition of Space Case.

As has been the case with almost all of my books, Barnes & Noble is printing an exclusive edition of the graphic novelization of Space Case. This one features Dashiell’s annotated version of the Resident’s Guide to MBA  — and yet, it’s the exact same price as the regular version of the book!

And just for fun, here’s some character art from the GN, courtesy of the amazing artist, Ward Jenkins.

  1. Yay! Thanks Mr. Gibbs, these are always great. I look forward to reading the GN when it comes out, Space Case was actually the first of your books I read. (It was in the 4th grade in Oregon Battle of the Books, a reading competition in my state.) For some reason, I actually thought it would be terrible, but boy was I wrong! Since then, you’ve been my favorite author!

  2. That’s really cool! I’ll definitely try to get it!
Quick question: Are you going to be doing a different illustrator for each GN series?

  3. NotCraig –

It takes a lot of work to illustrate a GN, so it would be difficult for an illustrator to do more than one series at a time.

  4. sophie !

I don’t really have the character designs in a good format to share. So at the moment, I won;t be sharing them.

  5. I’m very excited for these MBA graphic novels, I’ll be adding them to my collection of SS graphic novels too! I’m a big fan of all your series, Mr. Stuart Gibbs, and the one I always come back to as my favorite is The Last Musketeer series, as I very much enjoy learning about history. I also like exploring alternate history scenarios, like the events in TLM. I’m curious, how much research did you have to do for TLM before starting to draft the novels? Did research the time period and locations for all three books all at once, then wrote them all at the same time, you did you do everything separately, one book at a time? What is your process?

  6. ethan –

I was only able to write TLM because I happened to have been in Paris shortly before being offered that series — but then I did a lot of research on that time period. I had also been to southern France but decided to return there so that I could research the next two books.

There is no official process for research, because a book could be based on my having been someplace in the past, or I might want to write about a place but not be able to get there to research it. I just do what I can.

  7. Austin –

I am not sure if I am going to write CT5 or not. I have an idea but may not have the time to do it.

  8. is charlie thorne an on going series and also love spy school and funjungle although I havent read all ears(yet)

  9. Ronald =

I hope to write a fifth book in the CT series but don’t know if it will happen.

  10. Just came back and saw the character art, it’s amazing and totally fits my perception of the characters!

Also, I’d like to know if it would be possible to post more of the photos and videos on a blog here. I don’t really use social media, and I assume most of your other readers are probably not allowed to. Is the reason that they are mostly on Instagram because of storage space or for promotional/marketing reasons?

  11. Hey! I just wanted to say that I LOVE all of your series! Hope you are enjoying your week! Can’t wait for Spy School Blackout!

  12. Have any new studios been approached to make a movie from your books?

    P.S. The Last Musketeer 4?

  13. I noticed in project x it says “as well as some of the finest middle grade novelists in America” is that referencing you going to the university of Pennsylvania?

  14. Poppy –

You’re correct about why I don’t post all the videos here. It’s an issue of space. To have all the pages for each book and all the comment sections requires a huge amount of space, so I can’t really post videos, just links to them.

    Sorry.

  15. MMXander –

All studios have been approached. And now they are being approached again.

I have an older blog post that explains why there will not be a Last Musketeer 4.

  16. Baker –

It certainly seems like that might be the case, doesn’t it?

Other MG novelists who went to the University of Pennsylvania: Jordan Sonnenblick. Julie Buxbaum.

  17. Hey, Mr Gibbs

Will there be a preview pages for Spy School Blackout before is release, kind of like your other SS books? Also out of curiosity, I’ve noticed usually your SS books comes out in September or August, is there any particular reason why this one comes out in October? I know it just a month away but it’s definitely going to feel longer. And since I’m here I might as well take a chance and ask if there are any hints or anything you could gave about the book, which we may not know about from the description, that might fire up our curiosity even more.

    Thank you.

  18. Pal –

Usually, the previews for my books don’t appear until the books are published — or maybe right beforehand. So that’s going to be the case with Blackout too.

I don’t think I have ever had an SS book come out in August. They usually go back and forth between late Sept and early Oct, and that is very dependent on all sorts of things, like what other books my publisher is releasing in fall and when the jewish holidays are.

I have put all the info that I intend to share out about Blackout on this site already. The more you know about a book, the less fun it is to read! I don;t want to spoil anything.

  19. Hmmmm in my honest opinion, these illustrations suck. Sorry but it just doesnt reflect the characters at all. I expected Zan to kind of look like Mikasa from Attack On Titan. Dash just looks odd. Chang should look Asian and Violet is just bad.

  20. Honest Abe –

There are times when honesty is a good thing, but this is a time when it is not. There is simply no reason to publicly post mean things about another person’s hard work.

The illustrations are done and I love them. We are not changing them, so your opinion, while valid, is not going to change anything at all. All it can do is hurt someone’s feelings.

If you’re going to take the time to write something, why not find something nice to write on line? (It doesn’t have to be to me. It can be to anyone.)

  21. If you were to pick a cast for a big screen adaptation of SS, FJ, CT, MBA, and TLM, who would you choose?

P.S. – How old will Dash be in the GN of MBA, because the illustration portrays him as younger than Ben in SS because he is twelve in the GN (thirteen after Spy Camp)?

  22. MMXANDER –

I have put no thought at all into casting any of my books as movies because there’s really no point to it until someone decides they are going to make the movie. And if it takes five years, anyone I want to play a younger role will have aged out.

Dash is about 12 in the MBA GN, same as in the book.

  23. Hi Mr.Gibbs,
I just want to say that I’ve been a big fan of your books since middle school and I’m in college now and I still read your books.

I also wanted to ask your opinion on the current protests going on in California, and also if you support the bill that Trump passed. I also wanted to ask if you were ever considering sending a political message in one of your books; I know you’ve addressed climate change and other environmental problems, so just wanted to know if you would ever talk about your political opinion. (also if you don’t want to talk about something that might be controversial, I understand)

  24. geronimo –

I have participated in the protests in California because I think it’s safe to say that I don’t agree with anything that Trump is doing. I think he is wrong where human rights are concerned and he is definitely wrong where science and the environment are concerned. I think he is an incredibly dangerous president.

I have made some of my political opinions known in my books — and lots of right-wing people have attacked me because of it. I have had my books attacked because of my stance on climate change. (Basically, I argued that it shouldn’t be a political statement to say that climate change exists and was accused of being political.) I have had my views on equality attacked. I have had many, many people write one star reviews because they feel that I should not be putting my political views into books meant for children (although I’m sure those people would be thrilled if a book for children espoused their political views).

It has gotten to the point that, even when I wrote about conspiracy theories in Spy School Project X, but never mentioned Trump at all, many of his supporters assumed I was writing about him and got angry at me. (I always found it interesting that some Trump supporters would immediately assume that anyone talking about conspiracy theories must be talking about Trump. They were the ones who made that connection, not me.)

  25. Which book would you say got the most criticism due to certain themes or characters? Something like Zoe being lesbian, or the second Charlie Thorne book talking about evolution.

  26. SlightlyMoreMatureStuartGibbsMegaFan –

I don;t really keep track of what people get the most angry at — but perhaps the most surprising to me has been people upset at me claiming that global warming is a real scientific phenomenon.

  27. Hey, I saw the Spy School Secret Service GN just now. Comes out April 28, 2026.

  28. Abhishek Paul –

Oh! Didn’t realize that had been announced. (We have been moving some release dates around.)

  29. Since a Spy School movie will not be made, will you release the script you wrote for it?

Additionally, will Ben and Erica encounter any issues in their relationship? This sort of happened in SSGW, but both characters mainly imagined it.

  30. Fitzcracken –

I can’t release the script for a few reasons:

    1) I am still hoping that the movie will get made, using that script as a template.

    2) I don’t actually own the script. Disney does. That’s how the movie business works. I am not at liberty to share it, and I certainly can’t share it for free — just like I can’t share my own books for free.

Finally, I can’t reveal what will happen in future books. But I would say that, if a person perceives there is an issue in a relationship, then that is technically an issue in a relationship. So, in SSGW, that wasn;t reallyt an ‘imagined’ issue. It was a real issue, but Ben and Erica did the right thing and talked it through before it got worse. That was solid relationship advice for everyone. You’re welcome.

  31. I’ve heard you went to Israel a few times, and I’m wondering some things about your experiences and reflections. Not trying to be political. 🙂

When did you go? What were the happiest and saddest things you saw?

How do you feel when you remember your trips?

What gives you hope that the region can one day become more peaceful?

  32. Yuval –

I first went to Israel about thirty years ago and most recently went a little over eight years ago.

I think the Old City of Jerusalem is absolutely fascinating and spent hours wandering around it. The aqueduct beneath the city that I mention in the first Charlie Thorne is a real thing and was incredible to pass through.

But what strikes me most about Israel is that Jerusalem has some of the most important holy sites for three major religions in the world — and because of that, people have been fighting wars over it for thousands of years. Which does not make me feel positively about religion — or any chance for a longstanding peace there.

  33. This art looks really cool. I did not imagine some of the characters like that, but it still looks good and I’m excited for the release of the GN. Also, i have a question: are you planning on Charlie Thorne graphic novels? Like, in the far future, or ever?

  34. Saffron –

I would love for there to be GNs of all my novels but for the moment, my piblisher is focused on those for the SS and MBA series.

  35. Hello Mr. Gibbs, this isn’t about the Space Case Graphic Novel (love it btw), but I noticed that on the cover for SS Secret Service Graphic Novel, it’s the only SS GN where the person on the front is holding the graphic novel sign. Is this a mistake, or will it be changed? Thank you.

  36. Emilio –

I’m not sure how anyone could draw something by accident, so no, that’s not a mistake. That was intentional, and it is going to stay like that.

  37. Dear Mr. Gibbs,
I really love all your books! Sadly I can’t really contact since I don’t have an email! I just wanted to say that I really loved how you included Indian food in “All Ears”! I’m an American-Indian from SA, Texas and I’m so glad you like our cuisine. Hopefully you have been able to enjoy South Indian food , as it is different from some of the North Indian food you described. Maybe (since I assume you like history as much as I do) diving a little bit more into India’s would be cool! India has such rich history, each state used to be its own kingdom , with different languages and customs until the British! My dad takes lots of pride in his state, “Tamil Nadu” which has one of the oldest languages in the world and used to be ruled by 3 kings!
Thought you might find that interesting to research !

  38. Rosa-Sinensis

Glad to hear from a fellow San Antonian! Thanks for the info about India. It would be interesting to set something there some day.

  39. Thank you so much Mr. Gibbs! You have no idea what it means to get a reply from you!

  40. Hello Mr. Gibbs,
I just want to start off by saying that you are a great author and I really like your style of writing the Fun Jungle series where you incorporate real world issues into your books. Anyway, I am sorry if you have answered this anywhere before, but is the Space Case series finished. Like will you ever make another book in the series?

    Thank you,
    Abhi

  41. Abhi –

If you look at my blog, there is an older post that explains why the MBA series has ended.
