what is the intire writing procsess you do (please write this back because the mission write was not that clear to me)
pavin –
I can’t really detail my entire writing process because it’s rather long.
Basically, I generate ideas through curiosity and investigation, then brainstorm, research and outline over a year or so. When i’m finally ready to write, I spend 3-6 months on the first drafts, and then will return to the project to do another ten drafts over the next twelve months.
Hello,
I really enjoy your books and I love the suspense and drama that you put into your books. I think your style of writing is really funny. I really enjoyed the action in the Charlie Thorne books thus, I was quite upset when I heard that you wouldn’t be writing another one. I really, really, really hope that you might consider writing another one. Even if you don’t, I’d like to know what happens to her next.
P.S, I have a cousin who also really enjoys your books and we both can’t wait for the next spy school book.
Sofia –
Thanks for your kind words!
Hello,
Did you end the Charlie Thorpe series?
-Crex (Bodap Foundation)
Crex –
I have not officially ended the series but am having a hard time finding the time to write any more.
Hi Mr. Gibbs!
I’m a really big fan of Spy School — thank you for the amazing books! I was rereading Spy School British Invasion and had a question.
How and why did Joshua Hallal steal the information from SPYDER (on the flash drive)? Did he really just want to use the stolen info as leverage, or was he trying to take down SPYDER and overtake Mr. E? I just want to understand why he betrayed SPYDER.
Also, how did Mr. E know where the flash drive was stored?
Thank you!
DR –
Please realize that you are asking about the minutiae of a book that I wrote around seven years ago, so the details of the story are not that fresh ion my mind. I believe that the idea was that Joshua wanted to actually take down SPYDER.
I suppose that Mr. E, being a criminal mastermind with spies everywhere, somehow figured out where the flash drive was stored.
I would recommend that you read my blog post about why I can’t answer certain questions.
Mr. Gibbs
Have you ever had finished writing one of your books then you publisher says no?
-Andrew Carbo
Mr. Gibbs
If you do make a Spy School movie I think Harrison Ford would be a great Cyrus Hale
Andrew Carbo
When an author writes a book, we are constantly working with our editors throughout the process, so a book would never get to the finished stage without the editor or publisher seeing it.
And yes, Harrison Ford would be great as Cyrus.
Who would you pick as Ben and Erica
Andrew carbo –
Are you asking which actors i would like to play the roles?
I haven’t put any thought into this at all. There is not point until there is a movie ready to film — and even then, it is the casting director who makes that decision, not me.
Oh no I didn’t mean that I just meant that if their were to be a film for Spy School what would your actors for Erica and Ben like just for a fun idea
Andrew Carbo –
What would I want the actors to look like? I wouldn’t go into casting imagining the look of the actor first. I would want to cast the best possible actors, no matter what they look like.
If Daniel Radcliffe was still a choice I would pick him for Ben and I think Lin-Manuel Maranda would be great for Alexander Hale and Iain Armitage would be good for Murray
Hi

Hi, I was just wondering how many more spy school books you were going to write, and how would you like for it to end?
Sam –
I do not know how many SS books there will be.
I am going to keep how it ends a secret until it ends.
please make a CT 5 where she goes to ltaly
Do you have a preference on how to write books and what kind off books do you like
Stuart,
I would love it if Dashiell meets Charlie Thorne with Alex, Erica, and Ben
As a Collab of books merging together as the ultimate Charlie Thorne 5 book with perspectives of all
Charlie Thorne meets Spy kids, Spy School with Charlie Thorne, and Space with Charlie and spy kids.
Zander –
Charlie went to Italy in Charlie Thorne and the Curse of Cleopatra.
Olivia N –
I have my own preferred way of writing books — and I generally prefer to read books that are action, adventure, mystery and / or comedy.
Zander –
I am not against the idea for doing a crossover book between two of my series, but to cross multiple series at one would not work, I don;t think. (In fact, I am not even sure that crossing two series would work, which is why I haven’t done it yet.)
When you write books how long do you take for them for the ideas?
Andrew Carbo
I am generally working on the idea for a book for at least a year before I start writing it. Sometimes much longer than that.
PLEASE READ THIS. Hey Mr. Gibbs I am having a literal crash out because I’m on the last book of the Charlie Thorne series-which is the first of your books that I’ve ever read- and I love it. Finishing the last of Charlie’s adventures is actually making me freak out. Please Please PLEASE write another (or more) books in this series. I understand your very busy with your many other books your writing, and that writing the Charlie Thorne books take a lot more time, but also that you have an idea. I’m sorry for begging, but I need more of her adventures. I love her attitude , and how defiant she is toward authority, and yet at the same time, she’s a scared kid. Possible ideas for the hopefully next book of the series:
1. Betrayed by Dante, Milania, Eva (from college),
2. she is sucessfully kidnapped by an agency
3. The mossad and the Egyptian version that I forgot ñame of figure out Charlie was lying and that she did memorize pandora (and the recepte for the gold-making thing)
4. Her parents get a role in book, making yet another enemie for her
5. Dante and milania are hired by some gov agency (I just thought those books were far better)
6 . Dante and milania have a big falling out
7. The Furies turn out to be alive, and escaped prison, and seek revenge-and not only do they want pandora, but also the gold thing (i forgot what it’s called), and revenge r
8. Ivan (from the lost city) turn out to be alive, more enraged, and seeking revenge and pandora
9. Julia Carter, (who has gained trust of Dante, Milania, and Charlie), regains her position in CIA, and knows about all the team’s discoveries, she wants Charlie’s, and her memories, and plans of using the tactics that she was hiding from Dante in the lost city book to gain them ( and maybe, she re-hires Dante and milania, sorry, but I love the conflict of Dante trusting America, while Charlie doesn’t)
10. Issac Semmel gets fired from mossad, and goes roage(sorry, my spelling is horrible), and seeks Charlie’s secrets in hope of impressing Mossad officials and regaining his status and position)
11. Charlie is actually injured (all the books are interesting, and I know she’s only 13, but it’d be such a curveball if she was actuallly shot)
12. (I also loved how Charlie was able to trick Dante and milania and runs away, maybe they loose her trust and Charlie runs away
Thats all I got, in the end , your the author, but I was thinking if time was a concern, than more ideas could help motivate you to write another addicting Charlie thorn book (Also I’ve barely started the 4th book of the series, so sorry if you already included some of those ideas. thanks fo reading I REALLY hope that you write a 5th,(or preferably more than that) Addition to the series.
hey, me again, sorry if this annoys you (feel free to tell me if it does-it won’t hurt my feelings and I’ll stop bothering you abt another CT book) but PLEASE consider writing another Charlie Thorne book. I am obsessed. today I spent 6 hours straight reading cleopatra’s curse. I LOVE THEM SOO MUCH. I need more of her adventures. Please. Charlie’s Witty and defiant personality is so admirable, not to mention her extraordinary intelligence. I love all the books, my fav being tied between the last equation (which idk if I love because it’s just better than everything else, or just because I loved it (because it was still soooo good,) and it was the first of the series, or Cleo’s curse, which had so many shocking twists that I could not stop reading it (I still haven’t read the 4th book of the series) I am begging you, I NEED another CH book
Just another fan…
It’s not like I don’t want to write another Charlie. I love Charlie. It’s just my most time-consuming series to write and I am stretched pretty thin right now, trying to get lots of other books out.
I truly appreciate your kind thoughts about the series.

Hey Mr. Gibbs, I just finnished the last Charlie thorn book. I AM OBSESSED. Please Please Please Please write another CT book. I understand that it take a lot of time to research and write, but I promise it’ll be worth it to your many, many, many fans of the Ct series.

Hey Stuart Gibbs! I love your books. I just had a few random questions for you…

2. What inspired you to write so many espianage books?

4. Are there gonna be more CT books?

Hey Mr. Gibbs. I was wondering why /what significance the yellow streak on all the CT book covers serve
hey I love your books so much, I’m currently reading the Charlie Thorne series, I’m only on the beginning of the 3rd book, but from what I can tell, they’re so good! I love all the unexpected twists in the books. I especially love the sibling rivalry between Dante and Charlie, plus the whole crush thing with Dante and milania is brilliant.

The yellow streak is a design concept that was created by my cover designer. Lucy Cummins. I am not sure why she chose to add it; I suppose because it is visually interesting.
Hey Mr. Gibbs, (yes, I have read the FAQ, so sorry if I overlooked something). Anyways, I love reading. I feel like i’m very creative and have an active imagination. My problem is , however, that I’m worried that some of my ideas are just a merge of many books. I’m not asking for ideas, just wondering how to avoid this, and how to be more original. I want my book to be different, not just a whole lot of what everyone else has done. Also, my Fave genres are espionage and historical fiction, which is what I want to write about. The problem is though that I could probably write more on something I could relate to rather than either of these topics, plus I have school, so I can’t spend a lot of time researching.

Almost all art is based on other art. Think about how closely Harry Potter’s story parallels that of Luke Skywalker. (I’m not saying that JK Rowling copies George Lucas. Just that, at a certain point, all stories are going to overlap with others.) I’m not the only person to write a series at a Spy School; I just did my idea differently from other people. Don’t get hung up on all this. Just write the stories you want to write.
