Here’s the news you’ve been waiting for: The title, cover and plot of Spy School #14!

I have received a lot of messages from a lot of people wanting to know about this book. So I will not draw things out any longer. Here is the new cover and title:

And here is the synopsis:

When the seasoned adult spies of the Hale family mysteriously disappear on a mission to China, Ben Ripley and his fellow spies-in-training head east to discover what happened to them—and find themselves up against a villainous plot that will take them from the skyscrapers of Shanghai to the ancient ruins of the Great Wall to the remote regions of the Gobi desert.

It will be available on October 6. Click here to pre-order it! (Although a lot of sites may not have it ready for pre-order yet. They will soon, though.)

Now, here are the answers to a few questions I am sure I will get:

That’s it? That’s all the information you are going to share with us?

Yes. The less you know about a book before you read it, the more fun it is the read. I don’t want to spoil anything.

Can’t you tell me anything else? Even if I ask nicely?

Sorry, no. And if you send me an email or post a comment asking for more info, I will simply direct you back to this page.

Will there be an exclusive edition of this book with bonus content?

Probably, although that isn’t guaranteed yet. If there is, I will post about it.

Now that you have written Goes South, Goes North and Goes east, will there be a Spy School Goes West?

I don’t know. Strange as it might seem, I write the titles of my books last, not first. I wrote this book because I wanted to set a book in China, not because I wanted to call a book ‘Spy School Goes East.’ That title just ended up working better than any of the other options.

  1. Hello mr. Stuart Gibbs,
I’m your Greek fan who wished Jessica Shang in SSGE. I have recently begun Spy School Goes Wild. Will be SSB launched in Greek language soon?
    Can’t wait for it!!!
    P.S. I haven’t read Spy School The Graphic Novel(s).

  2. Thanasis –

I believe that Greece is doing a better job of translating the SS books quickly than most countries — although I am unsure when SSB will come out. It is very hard to keep track of every country and the book translation schedule. Sorry.

  3. Dear Mr Gibbs.
I see that this book will take place in china. I would like to give my perspective and consult on China because one of my parent is mainland Chinese who’s family still live in china. Me and my parent live in Thailand however but I do regularly visit my Chinese relatives. Therefore I have a personal experience, cultural perspective and a “western perspective”. I want to make sure that you aren’t victim to misinformation as a lot of western media on china is outdated, misleading, and sinophobic. I won’t claim to be unbiased and there are truths in western media regarding china but I hope to open a fresh perspective on such a mysterious and rising nation. You can ask me anything: censorship, LGBTQ, Tiananmen Square, Poverty or Fun facts, food, culture, dialects and even Shanghai.

  4. I can begin by clearing misconceptions regarding social credit system. According to Wikipedia it is stated that” There have been widespread misconceptions in media reports that China operates a unitary social credit “score” based on individuals’ behavior, leading to punishments if the score is too low or rewards if the score is high.” I recommend reading the article. Social credit system is basically USA credit score that been overblown by media. Conversation with my relative also confirm that they have never heard of a social credit system that evaluates the behavior of a citizen

  5. Junhe –

I truly appreciate your offer to consult on SSGE. However, to have a book come out in October, I started work on it nearly two years ago. My work on this book is close to finished now.

For the record, I based what happens in the book on my own research conducted by visiting China. I do not discuss politics or the social credit system at all. That is not what the book is about.

  6. Hello mr. Stuart Gibbs,
I have recently finished SSGW and you should include Shoren, Dane or Bjiorn in your next books. Without spoilers, is there another Dane Bramage’s cousin?
    Your Greek fan.
    P.S. SS series is AWESOME!!!<3

  7. Hello-

So I am so sorry for the amount of words you are about to see, but how would you personally rank all these spies:
Erica, Ben, Sveltena (sorry I cannot spell the name), Cyrus, Catherine, Alexander, Mary, Zoe, Chip, Jawa, Mike, Trixie, the principal, and yeah that’t it

And obviously that is personal opinion and you might not rank it but I feel like it could be a fun thing for you to do itdk

  8. .

Some of those spies are better than others, but I really can;t rank them all.

  9. Hello Mr. Gibbs,

I completely understand if this is a difficult question since all of your series are like your “babies,” but I was wondering if you have a favorite series that you most enjoyed creating or writing.

Thank you so much for your time!

    Best regards,
    Sai

  10. Sai –

It’s just as you suggested. I can’t say that I like one more than any other, because they’re all my… well, I’ll say ‘children’ rather than ‘babies.’

  11. Mr. Stuart Gibbs,
I’m your Greek fan. Although you can’t share information from next books Spy School, could SS 15 be located in Greece? I would love this book and you could also include me or other Greek fans (if you have).
    I’m looking forward for SSB!!!

  12. Thanasis & Vasilis –

I can’t say whether there will be a SS set in Greece — but a good portion of Charlie Thorne and the Curse of Cleopatra is set there!

  13. I am so excited for SSGE!! Every year I look forward to this post so that I can put the release date in my calendar book! I’ve been following the series since the first release and I’ve loved watching Ben grow into a confident and capable spy- and win over Erica! Thank you for an amazing series! Erica and Ben are the best. Can’t wait for SSGE!

  14. Hello Mr. Stuart Gibbs,
I am overjoyed to know that there is another SS book coming out! Your books give me a rush of excitement and can’t wait to see what adventures we all get to go on! ever since I finished SSB I have not been able to stop thinking about the 14th SS book!!! I love so much that they keep going and I’m so so excited to hear more about Ben and his friendships with everyone growing stronger!! (and of course his and Erica’s relationship ??) Anyway thank you so much for creating such an amazing book series that inspires me to write my books!!
    Have an AMAZING day!
    -Kennedy!

  15. kennedy –

Thanks so much for your kind words. I wish you the best of luck with your own writing!

  16. Dear Mr. Stuart Gibbs:

Although I didn’t buy all of the SS series, I still looking forward to read some of them in the future. They are amazing that I woke up at 6 in the morning just to read them. Well,
so far I read Spy School, Evil Spy School and Spy Ski School. In fact Evil Spy and Spy Ski ended with romantic scenes of Ben and Erica. In Ski School when Erica kissed Ben, she just said that she didn’t want Ben’s life to end badly. But we all know what that means. ( So we might see Ben and Erica have a further relationship in the future? ) I just wrote this to tell you that keep up the good work!

    -Karlis

  17. Hello Stuart Gibbs
can u share some of the other titles u were considering

  18. CREEPER (TT)

There were not really any titles I liked as much as Goes East, so I am not going to share the others.

  19. Hi, Special Agent Gibbs. It’s Agent Robertson. Again. I hate to put you on the spot like this and know it’s not fair, but shouldn’t there be SPYDER and other evil organization plots (I.e. CRUSH, SKORPION) that have been successful prior to the series? Or have somehow every single evil plot been foiled and those organizations somehow aren’t bankrupt?
Sorry, but I just have to know.

  20. Agent Robertson –

Sure, there might have been a successful evil plot before the series started — although if it was REALLY successful, maybe no one knows it even took place.

  21. Mr. Stuart Gibbs,
I’m your Greek fan. I think an SSGG (Goes Greece) would maybe be a nice idea.
I hope my opinion is helpful and you are going to take them into serious account.
P.S. I know I’m talking like I’m taking Lower degree, but I really take it in some months, even though I am younger than 12.

  22. Mr. Stuart Gibbs

I love you books and am really looking foward to SSGE and hope to see some fun moments and hope to see more of the moments that make me laugh and cring because i know whats coming.

Like at the end of book 8 when Trixie questions Ben and Mike.

I love the series and wanted to know what books you had the most fun writing and what your favorite part in all the books is

  23. James –

Sorry but it is really hard to say what my favorite part in every one of my books is. If I write a good book, then it should feel like non-stop good parts.

No book is more fun to write than any other, but sometimes the research can be really fun, especially if I get to travel somewhere. It was a lot of fun to research Goes East with my daughter.

  24. Hi! I love your books so much, I’m doing a report on your books for school. I would really appreciate if you could answer some of my questions.

    1. Have you won any awards besides the Maud Hart Lovelace Award and the Pennsylvania Young Readers Choice Award?

    2. Do you think you will put any more series out, or will you just continue with the ones you have? (I would love it you made more MBA books)

    3. Do you have any other pictures of yourself? (I could only find one online on Google)

If you could answer these questions as soon as you can(seeing as my report is due on Wednesday) I would really appreciate it!

  25. Brady –

    1) I have won a few other state awards and been nominated for the Edgar Award twice.

    2) If I decide to do a new series in the future, I will post about it on my blog.

    3) I do not share any other photos of myself other than the ones that are already on line. (There is more than one, I believe.)

  26. Mr. Gibbs,

I am a very big fan of your spy school series starting around when I was 11 (I’m 15, almost 16, now) and I have read your blog and FAQ’s very thoroughly. I am increasingly excited for SSGE. I understand that you plan your books out ahead and you prefer people not to send ideas for the characters personal growth because you have a plan for what you want to do with that, but I have something I really want to say. during the events of SSB, I feel like Ben and Erica’s relationship wasn’t really as big a part of the story as I had hoped, and was hoping you could stress it a little more in future books (if the relationship holds, I don’t know). I would also like to say that I am very glad about what you have done to re-include some of the characters from previous spy school books (not wanting to say who specifically just in case someone hasn’t read the book yet). another thing is that I think is that, I’m sure you have probably thought about it, but bringing all of Dane Brammage’s (current) family into a fighting scenario, regardless of if they are all on the same side or different, it would be a very fun scene to read, and maybe even fun to write. I just thought that I should tell you. I’m looking forward to continuing to read the spy school series, regardless of what you do with it. I love the Spy School books.

  27. Remington Shepherd

In the first draft of SSB, I did focus on Ben & Erica’s relationship, but my editor felt that it wasn’t advancing the story and that perhaps focusing on other relationships (like Erica and Trixie) might serve the story better. This turned out to be correct. Now that I have so many characters and Ben & Erica have a decent relationship, perhaps not every book will focus on that relationship, as that could prove to be repetitive.

Sure, bringing the whole Brammage family together could be fun, but again — that’s a lot of characters. It might work — but then again, it might not.

  28. Mr. Stuart Gibbs, Will ever SSEE (Entrance Exam) be published in Greek? I don’t know how it is.
And, I insist for last time, make a SSGG. (Greece)
    You know who-

  29. Thanasis –

I don’t know if the Entrance Exam will be published in Greek. I doubt it, because word puzzles don’t translate well into other languages. They would all have to be re-created, which is a lot more work than just a translation.

  30. If you had an estimate how many books of ss are to come. 20? 30? OR you don’t know?

Also just a question will characters in past books like Tina, Jawa,Chip. I know they recently made a re appearance but Im talking about Murray. Or will someone else replace him. Will Spyder make a new comeback. Those types of things. Also Will Charlie throne and Ben ever intersect. Not like a full conversation and book together as that would be a lot to ask for. But subtle hints that They are in the same made up universe. I see how you have never revealed the CIA director in bens books. But you have In Charlies leading me to believe you might have already been thinking about this.

P.S Let me ask you a question about one of your SS books, I expect you to answer this merely by memory. When an assassin broke into Bens Room. What was the fake name he tried to pass off as.

  31. mursalin –

Sorry, but I can’t answer any of your questions about what might happen in upcoming books because i don;t want to spoil anything. I can’t give an exact number of SS books there will be, but it will most likely be less than 30.

The answer to your question is Johnathan Monkeywarts.

  32. Mr. Gibbs, I appreciate your books about Spy School very much. Thank you for bringing a style to your books where I find myself fond of almost every character (which Harry Potter couldn’t even achieve), and I say good luck to you when you write more of these! Because, Spy School needs to be continued because I know there is so much more to tell. Thanks!

  33. Hey Mr. Gibbs,

I just wanted to tell you how much I love your books. Every story is packed with action, unexpected twists, and really great humor. One line in particular—“MOOCH-ASS GRASSY-ASS, AMIGO!”—had me laughing so hard for a full five minutes. My teacher even asked if I was okay, and when I replied “no, muchas gracias,” my friends almost spit out their water. It was chaos—in the best way.

I’m currently a 7th grader and will be an 8th grader at Banks Trail Middle School, and your books have been some of my favorites to read. I’ve also really enjoyed *Charlie Thorne*, *Space Case*, and *FunJungle*. In *Charlie Thorne*, I love how a super-genius kid gets pulled into dangerous global missions, like solving puzzles left behind by famous scientists—it makes every book feel intense and smart at the same time. *Space Case* is awesome because it turns the Moon into this mysterious setting where a kid has to solve what might be the first murder in space, which is such a cool idea. And *FunJungle* is great with all the wild animal-related mysteries—especially how Teddy uncovers secrets behind what seem like normal accidents at the zoo.

You’re my favorite author, and your books have meant a lot to me and have helped me through some tough times, so I just wanted to say thank you. It’s really cool to be able to share this with you.

P.S. If it’s ever possible, could you include Banks Trail Middle School in one of your future books? I think a lot of the teachers and students would really like to see their own school in such a popular series like Spy School. That would be incredible!

    Sincerely,
    Advik Agrawal

  34. Advik Agrawal –

Thanks very much for sharing all this. I am very flattered to learn that you have enjoyed the books so much — and that they have caused a bit of chaos at school.

It is very difficult to include all the references in books that people request. But just in case, where is Banks Trail Middle school>

  35. Mr. Stuart Gibbs,
You could make a book of SSJEB (Spy School Just Erica and Ben). I mean a mission which would make them closer, with no other friends like Mike Brezinski or Zoe Zibbell. Only with these two. They would meet their friends after the mission. They would have to beat all bad spy community, like Croatoan, SPYDER before members, Shang and MI6.
The only team which would believe at them is CIA.
The one who asked for a Greek adventure – not Vasilis… :/

  36. Thanasis –

Every time I write a book where I leave out even one character from Spy School, I will hear about it from readers who are upset that character has been left out. So leaving out almost all the characters is a tricky proposition.

  37. Hi Mr Gibbs,
I first started reading your books when I was in 4th grade, and I’m currently in 7th. Your books have made a HUGE impact on my childhood, so thank you for your wonderful literary work!
