Here’s the news you’ve been waiting for: The title, cover and plot of Spy School #14!

I have received a lot of messages from a lot of people wanting to know about this book. So I will not draw things out any longer. Here is the new cover and title:

And here is the synopsis:

When the seasoned adult spies of the Hale family mysteriously disappear on a mission to China, Ben Ripley and his fellow spies-in-training head east to discover what happened to them—and find themselves up against a villainous plot that will take them from the skyscrapers of Shanghai to the ancient ruins of the Great Wall to the remote regions of the Gobi desert.

It will be available on October 6. Click here to pre-order it! (Although a lot of sites may not have it ready for pre-order yet. They will soon, though.)

Now, here are the answers to a few questions I am sure I will get:

That’s it? That’s all the information you are going to share with us?

Yes. The less you know about a book before you read it, the more fun it is the read. I don’t want to spoil anything.

Can’t you tell me anything else? Even if I ask nicely?

Sorry, no. And if you send me an email or post a comment asking for more info, I will simply direct you back to this page.

Will there be an exclusive edition of this book with bonus content?

Probably, although that isn’t guaranteed yet. If there is, I will post about it.

Now that you have written Goes South, Goes North and Goes east, will there be a Spy School Goes West?

I don’t know. Strange as it might seem, I write the titles of my books last, not first. I wrote this book because I wanted to set a book in China, not because I wanted to call a book ‘Spy School Goes East.’ That title just ended up working better than any of the other options.

  1. hi and hello Mr.Gibbs. I personally want to share how fantastic your books are and have CT, SS, the space case collection and every. single. book. and. graphic. novel. that you have made in those series. I just wanted to ask a question or two for you. I know that you have published ss goes south and north, and noth east. Will there be a west? lol. And a comment I have is I would personally recommend bringing back funny/ forgotten characters to mix up your books and to keep it from repeating the same characters. Some of these could be: made up ones, the stern family, chip and jawa, and personally my favorite, the shang family 😉 thanks for your time.

  2. Guys I think I posted literally 3 near same comments. If I did, just note this is my first time posting on a fan page and it is shear luck that I found the post button. Please just read the one posted by stuart gibbs fan sammy and ignore the other two. If I have not done this feel free to laugh at me. (Or virtual me I honestly don’t care)

  3. Dear Mr. Gibbs,
I LOVE all of your books. They are truly amazing. My favorite is Charlie Thorne and the Royal society. I would love to be an author when I grow up. I have so many stories inside me. Do you have any advice? Thank you so much!

    Sincerely,
    Ava

  4. Hi Mr.Gibbs
I was just wondering how you kept the story in the same pace or type of writing for so long. You have been writing for 14 years and I don’t understand how the story doesn’t just starts to get different.

  5. Hi Mr.Gibbs
I was just wondering, when The Academy of Espionage still existed, then all of the spys in trainings’ parents thought their kids went to ‘St. Smithen’s Science Academy for Boys and Girls’. But after it got blown up in SS Project X, they moved to Alaska. Where do the spys in trainings’ parents think they are now? Wouldn’t they know St. Smithen’s Science Academy for Boys and Girls got blown up?

  6. Hi and hello Mr.Gibbs. I wanted to thank you for personally inspiring me and developing and creating new and thoughtful books that I love to read.

Charlie Throne. Spy School. Once Upon A Tim. Space Case. Soon to be No Place Like Rome. You name it, I have it. 12 years I have waited in the dark watching and reading other comments. But now it’s my turn to really appreciate you.

I do have one comment, perhaps you could establish a variety of characters making more than just one appearance in one book to keep it cool and unpredictable. thanks

  7. Sammy –

I write my books first, then pick the titles. So even though I have done three points of the compass, I cannot guarantee there will be a west.

I do bring characters back at times. I just can’t bring back ALL the characters in each book.

I have to approve comments by first timers to prevent trolls. And I can’t always approve comments the moment they are left.

  10. Ava –

I have an entire page of Writing Advice on this very website. And that like to a video series I did called Mission Write that is even more writing advice.

  11. V

Believe it or not, I have actually been writing this series since 2010, so 16 years. I just keep trying to come up with fun ideas that can propel things forward.

  12. Vyas –

As noted in the books, all the other kids were sent home, along with a cover story about why the academyy closed.

  13. Hi Mr. Gibbs,
Can you please come out with another Charlie Thorne book? I know it might be a bit much to ask because you are so busy, but please take this into consideration. Charlie Thorne is my favorite series, it keeps me reading all the time. some kid out there will love to read it as much as I do. If you see this thanks for reading it.

  14. Quinn B –

I appreciate how much you want another CT book. I want to write another one for that reason. But there are also kids who want Spy School books and FunJungle books and now I have a new series as well and I’m afraid I just might not be able to do another Charlie.

  15. greetings. I am cheese. You are Mr. Gibbs. I have a question. Can you make a book where where Murray escapes prison and instead of trying to… in short terms kill Benjamin, specifically targets people like Cyrus and Erica so Benjamin doesn’t have much protection and it inflicts fear into him and then… KABOOOOOOM! HE STRIKES!

    PS. whats your favorite cheese

P.P.S, will SS ever collab with garfield

  16. Mr. Gibbs, can I just start by saying how much I love your books. Like there so cool.

But I do have a question. In blackout I noticed that without Tricksy or Erica sister, Ben and the gang would’ve been COOKED! So I personally wanted to ask you, will there be a book where Tricksy saves all of them like ben did in blackout on sharkbyte.

Thanks – your most try hard fan, Theo. PS im only 9 and my parents say that your books are really boosting my vocabulry and reading level. So another quick thanks for that!!!!!!!!!

  17. Hi Mr. Gibbs and I just wanted to ask a question about secret service and its really intruging and… weird. Near the start, we see Mike skipping literally the pendums in the obstacle course. Near the endish, we see Mike literally doing the pendums. WHY DIDNT HE SKIP IT (I don’t wanna be rude but how. why. like my name is literally huh?)

    Thanks. your confused pal, huh?

  18. Hi Mr. Gibbs,

How does Joshua represent the blend of good and bad? I always thought Murray was in the middle but this seems interesting.

Also, I assume you visited China for this book. What were your favorite attractions and activities?

  19. cheesey

Sorry but I cannot accept plot ideas from readers.

My favorite cheese is Humboldt Fog. (Most days)

Will SS collar with Garfield the comic strip? No.

  20. Theo

First of all, her name is Trixie. And yes, she helps out in Blackout, but then, all of the characters always contribute in one way or another. Ultimately, though, the series is about Ben, so it will most likely always be up to Ben to ultimately save the day.

I am glad that you are enjoying the books!

  21. huh?

First of all, keep in mind that you are asking a very specific question about a book that I wrote over a decade ago.

That said… When Mike originally skipped the pendulums, he wasn’t running for his life. He had the opportunity too skip a huge amount of the course. But later on, he doesn’t;t have that opportunity, because he’s running for his life and with his team and the bad guys don’t give him the chance to go around the course.

  22. Pops

Joshua started good, then became bad. That’s a blend. I’m not saying this is a perfect analogy where one of them is 33% evil an another is 50%.

Yes, I went to China. But I can’t tell my favorite places because that will spoil parts of the book.

  23. Thanks for the confirmation. On another note considering your most recent book, Blackout, if Orion is getting low on dough, or money, how can he hire Virgo? sorry for having questions like these but I tend to notice things that people don’t as I read books over and over and over again.

  24. Um, I’m not sure how to adress someone so famous so I think I’ll go with what other people have done.
Mr. Gibbs, I have a question about this new book that you are making. I know how many countries there are on the planet, but all your books seemed focus on just one. Why not create a chase between countries or perhaps something I saw from the simpsons where for example (Murray) commits a crime in one country but the crime is targeting another country?
    Just a thought-book LVR

  25. huh?

If he is running low on money, he can still hire staff. He might end up stiffing them on their pay. People do that all the time.

  26. book LVR

Might I recommend my Charlie Thorne series, which always takes place in multiple countries?

  27. This new book looks wonderful and swaesome but I do really want to know if we will ever see the Principal again or perhaps Dane Brammage?

Also your last book was personally my favorite but you did say in the book how you spoke with real people who specialize in things along the lines of electricity. Are all your books revolved around real experiences or actions that has or is happening in this world?

P.S. Is this book a minor continuation of Blackout?

  28. In SS 14 will it tease something such as a new villian because some of your books and graphic novels have teased this along in the footnotes at the end where we see letters, hinting also that they probably work in major countries along with developed countries and China fits perfectly in that catergory.

That would be incredibly cool and skibbidi as you literally make the readers the spy as we uncover sigma clues that lead up to this? Perhaps I’m just trippy though.

  29. The F@ke Stuart Gibbs

I can’t reveal ANYTHING else about future books, including who might be in them.

That said, it would be a really jerky move of me to end Blackout the way I did and NOT follow up the storyline I ended on.

All my books are based at least slightly on some real experiences I have had or research that I have done.

  30. memez master

I cannot reveal ANYTHING more about what will happen in Goes east — or any other future books.

  31. As the author of such a big book series and releasing it’s newest book, I did have 2 re appearing questions popping up whenever I log into this web.
May I ask of why you chose to re-enforce SS and not really any other series besides FJ? What I mean by this is CT has ended. Space case has ended. (Save for the graphic novels) But SS has 15 books in its possibly never ending series. Can you tell me why you chose to write so many SS novels without really turning back for CT and Space case?

Also, this new book that your writing looks awesome and I personally wanted to give a thanks to you for changing my life at the age of 10.

P.S. What would you be if not an author or environmentalist?

  32. Nacho Chip and Big Ben

The decision to end a series is always a difficult one. I explain why I ended MBA in a post on my blog. As for Charlie… that one isn’t necessarily done forever, but the fact is that those books are harder to construct and take more time to research and write. The reason that I — or any author — continues a series is that we still find inspiration to write that series. I have lots of ideas for Spy School books, which is why that series has so many books in it.

If I wasn’t an author, I would have been a field biologist. Having two career ideas is pretty much all anyone needs. I never thought about anything else.

  33. I am a big spy school fan and I love every book, my favorite character is probably Murray, but I also really like Chip. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out! Sqeeeeeee!!!!! ?

  34. Dear Mr. Gibbs,

I really like your books. They have inspired me to write my own (I’m so close to publishing it!) and I have watched all of your “Mission: Write” videos. I was wondering if you could give me some further advice for revisions, because I’m in the middle of that. Also, I was wondering if you could write a review for my book when it comes out, kind of like what you did with the first James Ponti’s “City Spies” book. Thank you in advance.

  35. I don’t want to add my real name for this

I’m not sure what else I can rally say about revisions. The whole point is to read your book and decide how to make it better, which differs for every single book. I guess I’d advise to see if your work feels too wordy, and if it is, then trim it.

Unfortunately I am overwhelmed with requests to read and blurb books and I really can’t handle them all. At this time, I really only read the books of close friends (and I can’t even do all of those.)
