The exclusive edition of Spy School Blackout is now available to pre-order!!

Once again, I have partnered with Barnes & Noble to create an exclusive edition of one of my books — which is only available at those bookstores.

What do you get with it? Let’s start with the book jacket: it is specially-designed, with a free, exclusive poster on the inside.

I have also written plenty of bonus content for the book itself: sixteen extra pages of fun stuff that will add to the story (and hopefully make you laugh a bit too).

And how much more will this all cost you? Not one extra cent! The exclusive editions is the exact same price as the regular book.  So why not get it?

Click here to pre-order your copy today!

PS. I know I am not saying much about what is actually in the sixteen pages of bonus content. That’s because explaining it might spoil the rest of the book. So please please please don’t write to ask me what’s in it. It’s won’t be able to tell you. You’ll just have to see it for yourself when you get the book.

That’s just rude that you call someone you don’t even know brainwashed when I wasn’t even talking to you and what my message said had nothing to do with you. My message was to Mr. Gibbs and if you are going to say just email him, I was explaining what @… Was trying to say. I still really love Spy School I just don’t think that adding serious topics like this is the way to go in a middle school book series.

  2. @Emily,

I do apologize for being ruder than I intended, but I believe that what @… says does not to be explained if you don’t agree.

  3. And if you agree, then please don’t share it in a rude manner, such as saying making fun of people, etc. then please modify your approach.

  4. Yes Sophie it is a topic people should know about, however there are some parents that want to explain to their kids about these concepts themselves and don’t want them finding out from a book. Remember 11 year olds are reading these books and many probably don’t know about this topic.

  5. Abhishek Paul –

I am sure that my books have been cancelled somewhere but that’s not really the sort of thing that I get notified about.

  6. I was reading the comments and what do youaen being gay is not a choice mrgibbs

  7. Rocketeer

When I say that being gay is not a choice, I mean exactly that. No one chooses to be gay. It is genetics, not choice. In the same way that no one chooses their height, no one chooses whether or not they are gay.

  8. Dear Mr. Gibbs,

Have you ever been like writing a book and just had to scrap it midway while writing it for some reason?

Also what would be your response to The perspicacious juxtaposition of labyrinthine epistemologies occasionally prevaricated beneath an effulgent confluence of quintessential paradigms, whilst the ontological reverberations insinuated themselves into a concatenation of obfuscatory phenomenologies. Hyperbolic perambulations meandered through an esoteric palimpsest, rendering the semiotic oscillations ostensibly ineffable, yet superficially grandiloquent. Meanwhile, the multitudinous stratifications of sesquipedalian constructs percolated into a nebulous concatenation of quasi-synchronous paradoxes, as if the very quintessence of abstruse verisimilitude had orchestrated a clandestine symposium.

  9. DihBlud –

When I was younger I got stuck while writing stories and didn’t know where to go. Then I started outlining my projects before I started writing them, and I have not gotten stuck since.

I have no response to the word salad. There does not appear to be a question there.

  10. Whoa, Whoa, WHOA!!! @M, He’s not being mean; he’s stating the truth. It’s Normal for books to have gay and trans characters! Its Not Normal for able minded parents to be telling their kids that being trans and gay are a bad thing! Some beliefs are completely wrong and are started by people who have either been hurt or just hate being different. Those are the wrong beliefs. you should be believing in the right thing.

  11. Wow I haven’t been on in two weeks and stuff is still hitting the fan. Mr. Gibbs and @Gavin, you guys are in the right. Just know that you are the good guys.

  12. @Harry
I don’t know M, but I don’t believe that most books especially for middle schoolers have a strong LGBTQ theme, and about having different beliefs from someone else, you need to respect what others believe so while Mr. Gibbs can put whatever he wants into his books, we are just trying to tell him that many parents probably don’t want their kids learning about these topics at a young age. You need to remember that middle schoolers and possibly elementary schoolers are reading these books since that’s who he writes for.

  13. Hello Sir,

I have a neutral question that may sound negatory but its not: Why was the main villain of SSB revealed so early on?

It seemed obvious from the start who they were going to be. I feel like it’s usually near the end that we find the person/persons responsible for the issue in a big revelation. As I read through the book, I was hoping that the mystery wasn’t that simple, and that the person responsible for the blackout was someone else, but I was not surprised. It seemed as though more of the book was about chasing the guy rather than figuring out who it actually was. Regardless, the book was still enjoyable and I look forward to the next one.

  14. One more thing Sir,

I notice that usually there are moments in SS books after an action sequence where the team focuses on how to get re-situated (ex. some members get captured or downtime before another conflict). It’s like a period of rest after chaos that allows the reader to relax (if you will) while also building up a sudden climax. One of these moments that I vaguely recall off the top of my head is when Ben and Zoe were talking together in SSGS about their feelings towards each other? While SSB had some of these moments, they did seem brief.

Although these moments are typically lackluster in action, I believe that the feeling they invoke in the reader add so much more to the story.

  15. AstutePrediction –

The reason for the early reveal of the bad guy in SSB was for the exact reasons that you pointed out yourself: This book wasn’t about they mystery: it was about how our heroes would track the villain down and defeat without modern technology.

Every book is different. Unlike the FunJungle series, the SS series is not primarily a mystery series. It is a spy series, and many of the books in the series have had an obvious bad guy from the start. They haven’t been about Ben figuring out who the bad guy is so much as what they have been plotting.

  16. AstutePrediction

I feel that those moments add to the story as well. That’s why I put them in the books.

  17. Do you have an estimated date for when you and Lucy Fummins rea lease the vove4 and title of SS14? I love your books!

  18. Jaboopi –

First of all, not that her name is Lucy Cummins. And no, I do not have an estimated date for the new cover and title.

  19. I read this book and I loved it!! I can’t wait for the next book. Will you be at NTTBF because I will be. I hope you have a wonderful day. Is it true you are friends with James Ponti because I love his books too?

  20. spy school lover –

I am planning to be at NTTBF this year. And yes, James Ponti is one of my closest friends.

  21. I just wanted to tell you that I love your books. I talk about them to friends and now they call me the stuart gibbs guy haha.

  22. Person –

I really can’t control the release dates in every single country. Every country has its own publisher and its own schedules and it’s impossible to keep track of it all.

I am 95% done with SS14. I have my own final edits, but then the designers and manufacturers have to do their jobs.

  23. I loved the reference to the last musketeer. They will forever be immortalized in the form of Orion’s dogs.

  24. @Harry,
So now bad guys and good guys exist? Bro’s acting like we’re in a freaking book. There’s no such thing as bad guys and good guys, because these guys were just protesting against this, and clearly, you guys didn’t like that, and that’s perfectly fine! You see people in the real world having gay marches or protesting for gay things to be normalised or for so many other things. So now all of a sudden, protesting is become a bad thing? I thought to understand gay people you had to be understanding? How is this in the slightest bit understanding someone?

  25. DEXTER…

Of all the offensive things anyone has ever written in my comments, this is the most offensive yet. Gavin is a real person with real opinions. I am perfectly capable of making arguments on why own without stooping to creating a fake identity to back myself up.

Also, my name is not Gibbsy.

  26. Mr. Gibbs,

I wanted to let you know that you are a truly great author whose storytelling has left a lasting impression on me. Your books are incredibly intriguing, and I appreciate the depth and imagination you bring to every page you create.

  27. Dear Mr Gibbs,
I am sorry that you have been dealing with so much hate on YOUR own website. I just wanted to say I appreciate your books. I was originally from England when I moved to America for my dad’s job. We decided to go to the spy Museum and as we were walking out I found one of your books. I loved it so much I bought the next one etc ….

Now I have all your SS books at home. Whenever I am feeling down I open up one of your books and read all about Benjamins adventures. It never ever gets old. I hope you know how much you are positively influencing kids with your books. When is SS14 coming out?

    Warmly, Tilly

  28. SSlover –

Hi. Thanks for your kind words. SS14 will be out in the fall of this year. For future reference, all upcoming release info is listed on every page of this website.
