The exclusive edition of Whale Done is now available for preorder from Barnes & Noble

I am pleased to announce that Barnes & Noble is releasing an exclusive edition on Whale Done, the eighth book in the FunJungle series.  (For those of you keeping track, this will be the 17th exclusive edition of my books that B&N has released.)

Each edition comes with several pages of bonus content, written by me — and a special book jacket — all for the exact same price as the regular edition.  That’s right: Extra stuff.  Same price.

Here’s the pitch:  After an escaped kangaroo starts a fire that burns down his house, Teddy Fitzroy accepts an invitation to go to Malibu with his girlfriend, Summer, and her mother, Kandace. He’s hoping to spend some time relaxing on the beach, but wherever Teddy goes, trouble isn’t far behind.

First, a massive dead whale has washed up on the beach—and before anyone can determine what killed it, it explodes. Doc, the head vet from FunJungle, suspects something fishy is going on and ropes Teddy and Summer into helping him investigate.

Then, Teddy stumbles upon yet another mystery involving tons of stolen sand. And the paparazzi start spreading rumors about Summer dating a celebrity, leading Teddy to question their relationship.

Without Summer as his trusted partner, can Teddy navigate the rough waters of this glitzy world and uncover what’s going on?

Available everywhere books are sold on February 21, 2023.

  1. Mr. Gibbs-

You’ve told us why the FunJungle series has been straying away from the theme park, but now Teddy isn’t even in Texas anymore. Is there a possibility he’ll come back to mysteries at FunJungle?

  2. Forever Berica –

I am trying to tell the best stories I can, and so I can’t say whether or not the series will return to FunJungle. I mean, the characters and plots are what really drive the story, not necessarily the theme park setting, right?

  3. Mr Gibbs,

Do you think that SCGN will have an exclusive edition, and if yes, what do you think might be with it? Also, do you choose what to add to the Exclusive Editions? Or do B&N decide that?

  4. What will be included in the exclusive edition? You usually include that in posts about an exclusive edition, so I was wondering about that since it wasn’t included

  5. The 8th Grader –

I hope to have an update on a SCGN exclusive edition soon.

I decide what to add. Because I’m the one who has to write it.

  6. Mr. Gibbs

When do you think Spy School 11’s title will be announced? Also, what would you say was your favorite book as a kid?

  7. MjNinja –

Seeing as SSPX came out less than two months ago, don’t expect a title, cover or synopsis of SS11 for at least a few more months.

I had many, many favorite books as a kid, but i always like to recommend The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin.

  8. In 5th Grade, my teacher read that book to us. I wouldn’t say it was my all-time favorite, but it was pretty good. Thanks for responding!

  9. MjNinja –

Kudos to your teacher, but I’ll bet the book is better if you read it yourself. Several of the puzzles and clues in it are very visual.

  10. In the Plainville, Massachusetts book signing, if Jeff Kinney does drop by, will he be signing any of his books?

  11. Ruben G –

Since it’s really a signing for me and not Jeff, my guess is that he will not be signing books there.

  12. Mr. Gibbs

What inspired you to become an author? Also, if you were to give one tip to someone who wanted to be an author, what would the tip be?

  13. MJNinja –

I have simply always loved writing, for as long as i can remember. So the job of writing stories just seemed perfect for me.

As for advice for aspiring authors… I have a bit of it on my FAQ page.

  14. Mr. Gibbs-
At any signings you do, do you always sign any book that you have created or just books that you have focused on for that signing and/or just came out?

  15. Super spy –

    My favorite color is blue.

It is not easy to become an author. You have to write a book on spec, then find an agent who wants to represent it, and then hopefully sell that book.

So far, I have received hundreds of emails and comments asking me to have Teddy and Summer be a couple — and exactly one asking me to break them up. So I am not going to break them up.

Why is them breaking up so important to you?

  17. I mean i wouldn’t mind if they didn’t it’s just that every time I read the books I keep wanting them to break up cause I feel like in real life the relationship would not have happened

tho it still is a great book series none- the -less so I applaud you

  18. Hi, Mr. Gibbs I just want to thank you for the FJ and SS series! I can’t wait for FJ book 8 and SS book 11! My brother got into your books and now he can’t stop!

  19. Hi Stu,
VIolet in MBA is so cute!!!

also, why do your books never have swears or any sexual kind of content?

  20. why are your books so… childish and non violent, the main characters never get hurt. you should kill someone like catherine or something because we know ben will never die

  21. Sean Mongan-

Part of the plot of Whale Done is that Teddy loses trust in Summer, right? So I mean, this kind of is that.

  22. Nick Danger –

If you look at the recommended ages for my books, you will see that they are recommended for ages 8 & up. That is why there are no swears or sexual content.

  23. Catherine Hale –

If you look at the recommended ages for my books, you will see that they are recommended for ages 8 & up. That is why they are non violent. I am not going to kill off any main characters. If you would like to read books where main characters die, feel free to read books for adults (with your parents permission.)

  24. Is Violet in MBA just like your real daughter? Shes so funny!

Also, How do you get a profile picture on this website??

  25. Catheeeeeeeeeeeerine –

I’m confused by your question. Are you asking why Ben didn’t call 911 to ask for someone to rescue himself (meaning Ben)?

911 isn’t a national organization that can mount a massive rescue operation against hundreds of assassins. And who’s to say that whoever would be called to rescue Ben wouldn’t believe the conspiracies about him?

  26. ?Violet Gibbs Lover?

The Violet in MBA acts very much like my daughter did at that age.

I don’t know how you get a profile picture on this website.

  27. Wow, I can’t wait for this book to be out for sale at my local bookstore at the mall. There’s no Barnes and Nobels in the city I live in, unfortunately. February 21 is pretty close to my birthday, which is in early March, so I’ll probably get it for my birthday. Thank you for writing these amazing books. They are truly wonderful. I love reading them. 🙂

  28. EEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I have tried everybody in Hollywood. Apple TV says they are not making ANYTHING for younger viewers.

  29. You could animate it? or you maybe could ask amazon to do it? they do most of them. u could also try unreal and make it a realistic animation like a video game
