Cover and Plot Reveal for FunJungle 8 (And the Cover Reveal for the Spy Camp Graphic Novel as well)

Two covers to debut today!  But first, let’s start with the big news you’ve been waiting for.  Here’s the cover of the new FunJungle:

As you may have deduced, this plot concerns a whale.  Here’s the details:

After an escaped kangaroo starts a fire that burns down his house, Teddy Fitzroy accepts an invitation to go to Malibu with his girlfriend, Summer, and her mother, Kandace. He’s hoping to spend some time relaxing on the beach, but wherever Teddy goes, trouble isn’t far behind.

First, a massive dead whale has washed up on the beach—and before anyone can determine what killed it, it explodes. Doc, the head vet from FunJungle, suspects something fishy is going on and ropes Teddy and Summer into helping him investigate.

Then, Teddy stumbles upon yet another mystery involving tons of stolen sand. And the paparazzi start spreading rumors about Summer dating a celebrity, leading Teddy to question their relationship.

Without Summer as his trusted partner, can Teddy navigate the rough waters of this glitzy world and uncover what’s going on?

The book is scheduled for release on February 21, 2023.  But if you want…

Now, I suspect that a few of you may have questions, so here are the answers to two of them:

Why did I pick a whale?

Because lots of people asked for one.  I figure that, over the years, more people have asked me for a whale mystery than any other animal.

Why does this one not place at FunJungle?

Because the victim is a blue whale.  And no zoo, not even FunJungle, has a blue whale on exhibit.  It simply can’t be done.

And now, for all of you excited to see the cover for Spy Camp the Graphic Novel:

This book will be available on April 4, 2023.  But once again…

  5. Mr. Gibbs,
I love these covers! AMAZING JOB! I do have a question, is it to late to expect a Evil Spy School Graphic Novel, or might that never happen?

  6. The 7th Grader –

The plan right now is to do GNs for all the SS books — in order. Since ESS is third in the series, it would come after SC.

  7. I just recently finished CT#, and I must say, It was amazing!

    cute.as.ducks.-
No, I just think he has a really long jacket :).

  8. Neither Whale Done or the SCGN is listed in the books section of this website
Also CT3 is still listed in the Upcoming Releases section and it’s been out for a week

  9. Frasier Crane –

Sometimes, you need to give me a little time to update my site. I’m only human. And i have a lot of other things to do.

  10. KK –

It is wrong. That’s why Doc suspects something fishy is going on.

  11. Wow! idk about you guys but this looks like its going to be the best FJ book yet! Also the SCGN looks amazing.

btw, Mr. Gibbs, CTATCOC was amazing, 5/5! It was really cool b/c in social studies this year i learned about ancient greece, rome, and egypt. just one thing, there was a part in the book where you described Ceasar as brutal. You used some examples that i had not heard of that were really interesting. However, Ceasar was also a very good and generous ruler as well. He pardoned the majority of the people that supported Pompey in the civil war and even gave them high ranking positions in the senate and other things like that. From what i learned, he was also extremely generous and nice to his soldiers. They had mutual respect and trusted each other one hundred and ten percent. I’m sure he was also brutal in some ways, but he could also be very generous and forgiving. You also described Ceasar as being feared. This is partially correct. The plebians (or working class), loved Ceasar because whenever he won wars he would send all valuables back to Rome to be shared, and he took land from the Upper class (or Patricians) and gave it to the Plebians. He even lived with the Plebs for a little bit. But the patricians did fear/not like him. They didn’t like him b/c of the land that he was taking away from them, and how popular he was and the amount of power he was gaining. They feared him because they saw the imbalance of power in favor of Ceasar as a threat to their democracy. But, Ceasar (from what i’ve learned) was actually a good leader. I really really hope that this doesn’t come off as rude. Please know that other than that one small part. The book could not have been better.

Thanks and apologies if this comes of the wrong way,
    A.Z.

  12. at least this is what i’ve learned
(i didn’t want to put this w/ the other post cuz it was already too long)

  13. Yes Alexander,

I just took my history Finald for 7th grade, it was bat ancient history, and it was sooo cool! I loved the Rome and Greek part the bests, and yeah, Ceaser was a really good leader to the plebians, and the patricians, (They are like the aristocrats of the Roman Empire, but there were never oligarchies…) really did hate him! I will be putting my thoughts abt CTATCOC in a message in here, there will be like 50 spoiler messages! lol!

  14. The 7th Grader-
Yeah, the patricians (except the ones that had alliances w/ him- which weren’t very many) did not like him.

  15. I love your books! Anjan is such a great artist! I love the GN! ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN!

  16. In your FAQs you said you started writing when you were in kindergarten. What were those stories about?

  17. Neal –

I wrote lots of stories. They were about things like dogs and cats, or dinosaurs coming back to life.

  18. Greg –

Whale Done is a pun on Well Done. But it kind of refers to the whale being done. Like dead.

  19. I JUST READ THE DESCRIPTION FOR THE BOOK AND I THINK IT IS GONNA BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Also, the Charlie Throne book was the best!!! I LOVE Ancient History so I really liked this one!

  21. KK-

    (A bit graphic but ok:)

“A decomposing whale carcass generates gases which build up inside their stomach and large internal organs. This then causes them to expand, but whale skin and blubber are tough so the gases become trapped inside, according to National Geographic.” – The Sun (a news reporting website, not the big star you see every day.)
In my research I learned that even though the blubber does hold the gas in, often human decide to touch the dead whale carcass (why??????? do you feel accomplished after touching a dead whale, dude???????) And by touching, I mean reportedly humans decide to clime on the whale (again, why?) Or the beach crew decides to move the carcass… But when touched, this often leads to the gases inside the whale to explode.

(On a side note, I’d give you all a link to my sources but whenever I link something my comment NEVER goes through. So if you want to find my sources just Google “exploding whales”.)

Now here’s what I think MIGHT happen in Whale Done (this is a THEORY, I do not actually know if this will happen.)
I’m assuming the whale explodes relatively shortly after its beached/killed… And Teddy, being smart, knows that it should typically take a bit longer. So he assumes that the explosion was planned by someone.

Now if you’re thinking, “oH bUt tAhtS tOo graPhiC foR a funJungLe bOoK”, remember in Belly up its explained that hippos shoot literal crap from there butt like a machine gun…

  22. Mr. Gibbs,

Do you think you might add the sliding thing when you first come on the site? Like the one that says upcoming books, it was a cool site to see!

  23. Sinon –

Marksmanship is not Ben’s forte and it never will be. I want him to use his brain, not a gun.

  24. The 7th Grader –

I put the carousel (the sliding thing) on when I have multiple books I want to advertise at once. Right now, I want to promote Charlie Thorne most, so I took the carousel off. But it will come back at some point.

  25. I love your books! Anjan is such a great artist! I love the GN! ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN

  26. I love your books! Anjan is such a great artist!!! I love the GN! ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN ANJAN!!!

  27. Hi Stu,

I was a bit disappointed with the characters in the SSGN not being book accurate. Please ensure that any characters yet to be introduced are drawn according to their descriptions. The characters not being accurate kind of ruined it for me.

  28. Hello mr. Gibbs!
    I was wondering..
    1) do you think a dolphin mystery would be relevant in your fun jungle books? (not asking you to do anything) just asking if its relevant or not X)

    2) do you collab with any artists? in your books (more of the comics)- ? [im not an artist hahahahahaaaa ;0;] juuuust wondering B)

    thank you!
