HUGE NEWS: I’m beginning a new series in winter 2022.

Hey everyone –

On March 1, 2022, you will be able to get this:

This is a new series that I have been working on for the past year, and I’m thrilled that I am finally allowed to tell you about it.

I know that many of you have asked over the past year if I was going to start a new series any time soon.  Now, before you get upset at me for not being honest, you need to know two things:

  1. I wasn’t allowed to say anything about this series until my publisher announced it, which they did today in an article in Publisher’s Weekly.
  2. was honest, given those restrictions.  I never said that I wasn’t starting a new series. I always said that it would be difficult to start a new series, given that I had three others going — and i might have added that I certainly wouldn’t be starting a new chapter book series.

You see, Once Upon A Tim is a little bit different from my other series so far.  It’s illustrated.  (And extremely well-illustrated, I might add, by the very talented Stacy Curtis.)

The series (and this will be a series) tells the tale of Tim, a peasant boy in olden times who hates being a peasant, so he takes the only other option available to him: Becoming a knight.  Even though knighthood involves lots of danger, terror and possible death.

This is easily the funniest series I have ever written.  If you’d like to learn more about it, you can read the Publisher’s Weekly article here.

Although know that the article isn’t just about Tim.  It’s also about the Spy School graphic novel, and it reveals the cover and some art from that book.

So, while I’m at it, here’s the SSGN cover:

Although I have said it before, I will say it again here:  The graphic novel will follow the story of the first Spy School novel (with some tweaks to make it more visual).  Hopefully, there will be subsequent Graphic novels for each of the other SS books.

This book comes out February 1, 2022.  That means it will only be one month between book releases for me next year.  You keep asking for more books.  I’m writing as fast as I can.

  3. MysteryfFanforLife,
I didn’t notice all the talks about masking. Like I’ve said, thank gosh I’m homeschooled! I also wear masks in person, unless I’m doing something athletic.

  4. Dhruv-

    I have 41,259 trophies
I lost 1,500 trophies in the trophy reset 🙁

    Can’t wait!!!
    Eeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. MysteryFanForLife —
My school is only offering in-person school this year, so I am going in physically.

  7. Classified 001 —
Uh, well, I like every book I read (mostly) so this is hard, but here are a few of my favorites in no particular order:

Percy Jackson series / Heroes of Olympus series, Rick Riordan
Harry Potter series, J K Rowling
    Spy School series, Stuart Gibbs,
The Thing About Jellyfish, Ali Benjamin
The Missing series, Margaret Peterson Haddix
Greystone Secrets series, Margaret Peterson Haddix
    FunJungle series, Stuart Gibbs
    Bird, Crystal Chan
The Mysterious Benedict Society series, Trenton Lee Stewart
    City Spies series, James Ponti
    Framed series, James Ponti
    Goodbye Stranger, Rebecca Stead
List of Things That Will Not Change, Rebecca Stead

That’s a lot, but those are my top favorites (or at least, all that I can remember)

  8. Wow, didn’t realize that some schools didn’t have online options. My district does, though, but I can’t take online anymore, haha.
    5 Top Favorite Series:

    5. Moon Base Alpha
    4. Jinxed Series (if you are a fan of Spy School and coding, this is for you!)
    3. Charlie Thorne
    2. FunJungle
    1. Spy School
Also, more series suggestions: Mrs. Smith’s Spy School for Girls series and Lola Benko. Mr. Gibbs have you read any of these books?

  9. Josh,
If you didn’t know, The Thing About Jellyfish is supposed to get a movie soon. Im not sure exactly when but it is starring Millie bobby brown. So that’s something to look forward too!

  10. This poll has been done like 15,000 times, but since SSAS is so close to release (5 days) what are you most looking forward to?

  11. SSAS for sure! And the graphic novel, once upon a tim, and charlie Thorne book 3.

  12. I just thought of something . . . I pre ordered SSAS from Barnes and Noble, what if they ship it on the 31 instead of it arriving then??? That would be terrible. Also, 5 more days!!!! I am beyond words I can think of excited!!!

  13. I really don’t get why people are saying “choo choo!” so much. I mean, I’m not stupid, so I get the train is moving and the book is releasing, but why that phrase of all things?

    Josh-
Tell your parents that it barely involves shooting (most of the characters either punch or throw as their attack. Plus, the game isn’t meant to be as violent as COD or Fortnite.

  14. Why do I feel like I’m the only person in the world who does not know what Fortnite or COD is?

But from what I can infer it’s an online game of some sort.

  15. Benjamin Gibson-

I have no idea what COD is, but I have some I
idea on what Fortnite is. Your not the only one.

  16. I have come to the realization that the only thing getting me through the fact that school starts in 3 days is that SS9 comes out in 4 days.

  17. A big fan and benjamin gibson-

Fortnite is a 3D shooter game which is the most popular game right now. COD stands for call of duty and it is also a shooter game but these 2 are REALLY violent because of the gore and stuff.

  18. I new Call of Duty and Fortnite, though I’ve never played them, but I thought Among Us was the most popular game currently. Also, when did we start talking about gamer stuff?

    Ice Queen-
Actually that is EXACTLY what’s going to happen. Apparently my book is going to arrive September Ninth.

  19. I usually buy on Kindle, so i do not have to worry about shipping or shipping delays.

  20. Ice Queen,
As a constant preorderer on Barnes and Nobel myself I can assure you, it will be shipped on the 31st. Its annoying but that’s how it works.

  21. MysteryFanForLife —
Oh, I’ll check those books out.

    Classified 001 —
Oh really? I didn’t know that! I can’t wait for it now!

    Ben —
    Oh, okay.

    Benjamin Gibson —
Same. I have no idea what COD is, and I’ve only heard of Fortnite. I’m not really into those kinds of games. I’m more into Roblox, Minecraft, and logic games such as sudoku, and 2048 (if that counts as a logic game). I’ve played Among Us, but I didn’t exactly like it that much. I mean, it’s fine, but Minecraft is much better.

    A big Fan —

I can’t buy the book, and I ordered it from the library but I’m 76th in line for an e-book, which sucks. I looked for another copy and there’s a physical copy with only 10 holds on it, but I’ve read all the other SS books online, (I started them in July, during COVID) so I wanted to read this one online as well. Besides, I feel like I like e-books more than physical ones. I don’t know why, but I just do.

  22. Hey, does anyone play Set? There’s an online website, setwithfriends.com which you can use. I’m not great, but I like to play.

  23. Can’t wait until next spy school book!
I have been waiting for the Ben x Erica ship for so long, glad it’s finally here!

  24. I can’t wait ’till the Spy School Graphic Novel comes out. Nice to finally be able to see our character’s faces instead of imagining them. Ben Ripley looks different then I imagined.

(Also my real name IS Benjamin. I am NOT naming myself after Benjamin Ripley.)

  25. Benjmin –

Keep in mind, the graphic novel shows only Anjan Sarkar’s vision of what the characters look like. If you envision Ben Ripley differently, then that doesn’t mean your vision is wrong.

  26. Heyyy guys hruuuu i havnt read the new book but i so excited to!!!!!! NO spoilers but seriosly is it gucci

  27. cookies4life –

The ARC of SS10 will probably not be out for another six months. No one has read it yet.

  28. I can’t wait for the graphic novel! How long does it take to write and illustrate one page?
I’m going to buy it the second it’s out!!!

  29. Benjmin-
It’s so cool that your name is ACTUALLY Benjamin! My name is ACTUALLY Nina, like Nina Stack from MBA:)

  30. Nina Stack –

It doesn’t really take me that long to write one page, as I’m adapting the GN from a book that already exists. But as for illustrating it… Honestly, that’s a question for Anjan Sarkar, the illustrator. I have no idea how long it takes him to illustrate one page.
