Bad news about the Spy School movie — for now

Hey everyone –

I know you have been waiting a long time for an update about the Spy School movie — and I am sure this is not what you were hoping for.  It’s certainly not what I was hoping for.

After 54 weeks of doing nothing with the movie script, Disney decided that they were not going to move forward with the Spy School movie.

Why?  I don’t really have a great answer for that.  I was told that Disney had some concerns with the story involving kids in real danger — which you’d think they would have been able to figure out was part of the plot long ago, given the title.

Sadly, this kind of thing happens a lot in Hollywood.  As I keep saying, it is very hard to get a movie made.

This does not mean the movie will never get made.  My agents can now try to set the project up at another movie studio or streaming service.  We will see what happens.

In the meantime, feel free to write angry letters to Disney or cancel your Disney + accounts in protest.

  1. Puzzle –

Yes, I have thought about birthdays for the other characters, but they are extremely difficult to keep track of and usually not necessary to the plots. So I haven’t included any yet.

  2. Hi Mr. Gibbs, Disney’s work is really wrong. Please do not give up and talk to other companies to make the film. We are waiting impatiently. If there is a flaw in my text, forgive me because I am Iranian and I am not fluent in your language.

  3. Hi Mr. Gibbs, do you prefer writing Spy School books where the mission is official and endorsed by the CIA or missions where the characters go rogue?

  4. Um, I think Disney’s not even worth for us to think about it ; So please talk to other companies. I’m sure they’ll accept!
    We’re all waiting!
    Thanks for your amazing book!

  5. G’day, children! Anyone would like to go for a spot of tea and biscuits before our next mission?

  6. That is just wrong! Don’t give up, I know that you can still make the movie and if its a success, me and my fam will definitely watch it.Love your books btw. -your biggest fan

  7. wow disney is messed up i mean just leave a sign in the movie that says kids don’t do this in real life like bro they did that for some movies

  8. Marcus

I like writing all the SS books the exact same. It doesn’t matter whether the mission is sanctioned or not.

  9. Kikototheroy –

Um… As this post states, there IS NO MOVIE right now. So whether or not it is animated or live action is undecided.

  10. Mr.Gibbs you should do your next book about charlie thorn following Archimedes clues that would be interesting and she would go to Greece and stuff

  11. Atticus Monroe –

I really appreciate your enthusiasm, but I have planned out a few Charlie books in the future, so I can’t really take suggestions for new ones. Sorry.

  12. Also MR.Gibbs i know that you have worked on certain movies or watever but could you please tell me wich ones? because i cant seem to find out cuse none of your books say

  13. OK thanks for the info for the future books,I get that I can’t wait for charlie looking for Cleopatra’s clues. Also how many books do you think there will be in the Charlie Thorn series?

  14. MisterMiisteri-o

The One and Only Agent E is right. Look at my FAQ page.

Books don’t list movies by the authors. Only books.

  15. also can i just say that i love how you always include your kids in the series like in BMA series you used your kids as the main characters and there in funjungle and its so cool (and they also have a small part in the original SS) and its soo cool

  16. Well this is annoying?. It’s the dang woke politics of Disney. “oH wE cAn’T dArE hAvE kIdS iN dAnGeR, iT’s A bAd ImAgE. bUt CaRdI b Is ToTaLlY fInE”. Disney really is trash 🙁

  17. Hi Stuart Gibbs I love your spy school books they are so awesome I am so upset and devastated that the spy school movie won’t come out for now of course but keep trying sincerely your biggest fan Reyna

  18. Hi Stuart Gibbs I am your number one fan I believe Disney is wrong you should make your movie on YouTube that way even if you don’t have some of the other apps people said you can still watch it thanks Stuart Gibbs if you answer you are the best author ever sincerely Reyna

  19. This is the email I sent to Disney, every little bit helps! 🙂

Hi, I’m a fan of both your company AND Stuart Gibbs, and I love that the both of you were considering producing a movie for spy school, one of the greatest books on earth! I’m saddened to hear that you threw a giant wrench in those plans, because his entire fan base, including myself, were very eagerly awaiting the release of this movie. I have been told the reason for this is that children in real danger wouldn’t be very child friendly, to which I must point out: have you even seen some of your movies? the show MUST GO ON for this movie, so please reconsider producing this movie please. Thank you.

I Sincerely hope this help to convince Disney, remember Gibbs Fans, THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!!!!!!!!

  20. What a bummer! D: But don’t give up! I know you can do it! I’m your #1 Fan 😀

  21. can you please tell me what movies you have made!
And please don’t give up. Even though Disney betrayed you I bet you can find a bunch of other better companies dying to make a spy school movie.

From, Erica Hale (aka: #1 fan)

  23. They said that they were concerns having kids in danger but that happens in like every Disney kid adventure movie.

  24. That really sucks!
You should still think about it and maybe if you sell it to another producer they can put it on Hulu

  25. Mr. Gibbs today is my brothers birthday and i would really appreciate it if you said happy birthday to him. You are his favorite author and him seeing a happy birthday message from you would simply make his day.

  26. Hi Mr. Gibbs! Like everyone else, I hope you can partner with possibly another studio, and I just came up with an idea, that maybe you’ve already thought of, but I wanted to suggest, it might be cool to do a Netflix Original TV Show. I don’t know if you’ve wanted “Series Of Unfortunate Events” on Netflix, but the format is 26, 30 minute episodes, with each episode covering half of a book in the 13 book series. You could follow the same, or a similar format, of course that would make your writing go back to square one. (PS your books are really good)

  27. Finn O’Meara –

Thanks for your thoughts. I am well aware of the ways that other series have been adapted and am considering various options with various media companies.

  28. So many people on here claim to be Mr.Gibb’s number one fan. I made a quiz to see who is really the number one fan. Please enter in your nicknames from this website so I know who is the number one fan

    here is the quiz https://uquiz.com/zuayl1

  29. That is to bad but keep trying. Also I’m a big fan of your work it inspires me to right books of my own thats where all my inspiration comes from so thank you for inspiring me.

  30. when the spy school series comes to a end and so do the movies will the last book be made in to two movies like hunger games and harry potter?

  31. Burn –

I don’t even know if the first book will be made into a movie. So how could I possibly know how many movies would get made? And i don’t even know when the last book will be written. So how could I possibly know how that would be adapted to film?

  32. Agent R –

I honestly don’t care which studio makes SS. If anyone wants to produce it, I’m good with that.

  33. This is just awful! But don’t give up! It has been a dream since day 1 to be Erica in this movie. And even though I know it will never happen, I just can’t wait for there to be a movie, period! Never Give Up!!!

  34. Actress –

If there is a casting call (no guarantees about that) I will certainly post.
