Spy School 8 title and cover reveal!

No point in beating around the bush.  Here’s the cover:

Another Lucy Cummins masterpiece!

As for the synopsis, here you go:

Ben Ripley has barely returned to America after defeating SPYDER when someone makes an attempt on his life — at CIA headquarters.  Even worse, the attacker appears to be none other than Erica Hale.

But while the CIA has branded Erica a traitor, Ben believes there must be another explanation for her actions — even if he has to go rogue to find out what it is.  Now, he’ll find himself up against an evil organization that has been working in secret for a very long time — so long, in fact, that Ben will have to track down the files of America’s original spymaster, George Washington himself.

It’s an adventure that will test Ben in ways he’s never been tested before.  An adventure that will jeopardize the lives of the people Ben cares for — and test the loyalties of his friends as well.

As of right now, the publication date is October 6, 2020.  (If you read this post earlier, you will note that the date has moved up a week.  That’s because I care about you, the reader, and didn’t want you to have to wait another seven days.)

All further details are classified.

I am sure that many of you want to know more about the book.  But that’s all I am going to share.  The more you know about a book before you read it, the less fun it is to read.

I just noticed the Amazon description says Ben is up against Croatan. Are they related to those mystery people who put the words on the tree down in the first colony in the U.S.? The ones who historian think made all the colonist disappear?

Also, Spy School will still be reality only right?

    Lots of questions to answer:

There is not one specific place i go for facts. I do lots of research.

OK, I am racking my brain trying to figure out what OuaT stands for, but I don’t know what you mean.

That is a very astute observation about the Croatan.

I am not sure what you mean by Spy School being reality only.

I was talking about Once Upon a Time bookstore where you mention that you can order autographed books by you. I noticed that some authors have autographed books on that site and some don’t, and I was wondering how you get a signed book on there as an author.

As for reality, I mean what Me again pointed out (thanks Me again). Will the series stay realistic basically. (again, like Me again said.)

Also, I looked at your FAQ again and saw you updated it to include Charlie. Since you read a lot of adult books when you were a kid, did you read any John Grisham (or see any of the movies based on his books)?

  4. Teddy –

Once Upon A Time approached me (and those other authors) about handling our signed copies.

My intention is for this series to stay relatively realistic. (i.e. no time travel).

I did read some early Grisham. I haven’t read anything of his in a long time though.

  5. Hey Stu,
Have you read any of the Harry Potter books? They, (next to your books), are my favorite. I put FJ6 on my home list on RBDigital and I am first in line, so I will be first to get it!

  6. Once Upon A Time = Ouat that could be a cool destination in spy school 9! Whenever 9 comes out. Or it could be a new shop coming into FunJungle! This could be an interesting plot twist.

by the way, none of my business, but when is your next blog post?

  7. Tarzan –

Lately I have enjoyed reading James Ponti, Thomas Lennon, Sarah Mlynowski, Stacey McAnulty, Varian Johnson… and all the short stories in the Super Puzzletastic Mysteries collection I was asked to be a part of.

  8. Layla –

When I write the last book of the series, I will make it clear that it is the last book of the series. Until then, assume that the series is continuing.

  9. Ben MUST end up with Erica. And to to make things straight, Erica is NOT EVIL!!!!!!!! pls make a ninth book.

  10. you say that you base your butt characters off of people you know sometimes right? Like your son and your daughter. In your moon base Alpha Series. Right? Please respond.

  11. Absolutely cannot wait for this book to come out!!! I am anticipating that very day. Oh by the way, are you considering making a ninth book? That would make my life.(day?) quick question though, how are you and your kids? Can’t wait!

  12. hello mr. gibbs. i just want you to know that your books are amazing and i always love the plot twists you add in. im very glad that more books are being published. take care.

  13. Bookworm –

I’m not quite sure what you mean by my ‘butt’ characters.

But on very rare occasions I base some of the characters in my books on real people. Usually, I do not.

You requested more info but were not specific about what you wanted more info on. If you want more info about SS8, I think I made it pretty clear that I am not sharing any more and why I have made that decision.

How many Charlie Thorne books have you planned so far? How long do you think the series will last?

  16. Snowy P –

I have ideas for several CT books — but that doesn’t guarantee that I will write them all. I have to see how the series goes.

  17. Stu-
Is Charlie Thorne going to be just about Pandora, or is there going to be something else? Also, are the Furies still doing …okay? We kinda lost them at the end of the book

  18. Snowy P –

Charlie Thorne will have lots to pursue other than Pandora. And as for the Furies… they might still be around.

  19. Stu –
Well, the leader could always escape.

So, I’ve been reading these comments, and there are quite a few that talk about the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling. I’ve never read any of the books; I was wondering how you’d rate them.

  20. STU-
I will try to be clear this time. I have two questions for you.
First, I noticed that in all of your books the authority (MBA-NASA,SS-CIA, FJ-Everyone)is not regarded very well so what is your opinion about authority?
Second, Will we ever know if Ben gets Erica or Zoe?

  21. Encrypted –

I wouldn’t say that everyone in authority isn’t regarded well in my books (except maybe Spy School). The authorities are just human and fallible. My issue is less with the authorities themselves than how authority presents itself. For example, NASA in MBA is doing good work, but it’s really hard to set up a moon base. So the real issue is their presentation of MBA as a place that is perfectly functional when it isn’t. I think it’s too much for us to ask that our authorities be infallible — but I think they should be moral and honest. When that stops happening (and that happens a lot), it’s a problem.

Yes, you will know who Ben ends up with. Eventually.

  22. Stu, i noticed that in the first book zoe is described with having big green eyes, but then in spy school secret service she has brown eyes. is that just a continuity error or does she wear contacts? your books are the best! i’ve read them each at least 3 times!

  23. Stuart Gibbs-
I love your books so much.
So, how many books are going to be in spy school and fun jungle

  24. Stuart –

So . . . Ben’s going to end up with someone? He’s not going to remain a bachelor for the rest of his life?
