And now… The title, cover and plot of FunJungle 6!

The official title of this book slipped out on the internet a few days ago.  (I’m never quite sure how that happens.)  So I have been given the go-ahead by my publisher to start revealing details about FunJungle 6.

I suppose I might as well reveal the title and the cover simultaneously, seeing as the title is on the cover.  So here you go, another masterpiece by Lucy Cummins:

Now, I know what you’re saying:  ‘Wait a minute.  Tyrannosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago.  So how on earth does this mystery have anything to do with one?’  I’ll let the official synopsis explain everything:

In the latest novel in New York Times bestselling author Stuart Gibbs’s FunJungle series, Teddy Fitzroy returns as FunJungle’s resident sleuth to solve his most improbable mystery yet—with a victim that’s 65 million years old.

Teddy was all set for a campout at his friend Sage’s family ranch—but then Sage gets terrible news: The skull of a rare dinosaur that was being excavated on his property has mysteriously vanished overnight in the middle of a rainstorm, even though it weighed 500 pounds. Not a single footprint has been left behind. Since the dinosaur was top secret, the police don’t believe anyone outside the dig could have stolen it.

A T-rex skull can sell for millions of dollars, and everyone is a suspect—including J.J. McCracken, the owner of FunJungle.

Meanwhile, Teddy’s old foes, the Barksdale twins, have gotten into trouble with an illegally purchased anaconda, and Teddy’s girlfriend Summer wants to find out who’s behind the local trade in black market reptiles. The two cases will drag Teddy into more danger and chaos than ever before, in this mystery that’s stranger than fiction.

Right now, the release date is not quite locked in.  Some of you may have seen it listed as April 7, 2020 but that’s not official yet.  In fact, that date is probably wrong.  All I know is, the book will be released in the spring.

Since this is not the first time I have posted something like this, I know what is going to happen next.  Many of you are going to write to me with all sorts of other questions about the book.  But I’m not going to answer any of them.

Why?  Because trust me, the less you know about a book before you read it, the more fun it is to read.  What if you had known all the Twists to Avengers: Endgame before you saw it?  That would have sucked, right?  Well, same goes for the book.  Knowing all sorts of details about it before it comes out isn’t going to do anything for you.  Just hang in there.  Spring will be here soon enough.

And if you were going to ask me ‘Is there going to be an exclusive edition of this at Barnes & Noble?’ the answer is: I don’t know yet.  But if there is one, I won’t keep it a secret.  I’ll blog about it.  I promise.

  1. Hi Stu-
I was wondering, in Belly Up, it shows on the map a exhibit called “The Great Flight Cage! Opens Next Year!” I understand that a couple of years have passed since Belly Up, and that one or two years have passed in the FunJungle series. So, why hasn’t the Flight Cage opened yet? In Lion Down, it still says, “Opens next year!” SO why hasn’t it been worked into one of the storylines, or at the very least, be edited on the map so that the “Opens Next Year!” sign is away?

  2. CookiesForever –

Actually, a year has not passed within the series — and the construction of the Great Flight Cage has been slowed in order to build The Wilds.

  3. yay! soo excited to read the new book! i love all of your series but personally funjungle is my fav. thanks for the post stu!

  4. Teddy and Summer are a great match but I can’t help but think about how less than 10% of middle school relationships last until high school, while eight percent of high school relationships work until marriage, and only five percent of the relationships that are started in high school lead to marriages that do not end in divorce… I still love them though!!

  5. Hey Stu!
I was just wondering… is teddy taller than Summer? Idk I kinda imagined summer to be taller.

  6. Hi Mr. Gibbs! Just wanna say, I LOVE your books. I asked my parents for a Skype call with you for my birthday. This year, the kids bookstore in town hired me to read and review advanced reader copies, so I got to read this early. Will there ever be a case that Teddy can’t solve? Also, will Summer and Teddy break up?
    Yours truly,

  7. I saw someone else came up with a crossover, so I made my own.
One day at FunJungle, Teddy sees these weird boys, about fifteen, running around wearing weird clothing gaping at awe in the animals while this other boy, slightly younger, wearing normal clothing tries to wrangle them. Teddy walks over to see whats going on, and the weirdly dressed ones introduce themselves as Porthos, Aramis, and Athos in French, so Teddy can’t understad. The normal one intoduces himself as Greg and translates for Teddy. Then this other guy shows up with a gorgeous girl, and says they’re Ben ad Erica. So th CIA is here because they know something strange is going on. Then one more guy name Dashiell shows up with his friend Kira. Then everyone’s trying to figure out whats going on and then Teddy, Dashiell, Kira, Summer, Greg, Porthos, Aramis, and Athos all suddenly end up recruited for Spy School. Not sure how it goes from there.

Okay, I became one of those reviewers because I bought so many books from my local bookstore that I probably bought hundreds of dollars worth of books every month or less. Not sure it works with other people, but they just said “Hey, wanna review books for us?” so i said “Sure” and that was that. With other bookstores, just express interest in that job and that would definitely help.

A mystery that Teddy couldn’t solve wouldn’t make for a very good book.

The future of Teddy and Summer is classified.

  10. Stu
I tried to combine all of your books (which wasn’t easy). Also, I’m kind of freaking out because you’re my favorite author in the universe!
Although, since I said the universe, there might b soe even better alien authors. Mybe Zan became an author. I’m pretty sure her books would be great.

  11. Hey Gibbs!! I LOVE how you write your books, and even if there’s boy main characters, you manage to add some good girl char. I’m REALLLLLYYYYY exited for your new books :):):). 😀

  12. YUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved Lion Down! Now one with dinos??!! YUUUUUUSSSSSSS. Could you come out with a book about turtles? That would be amazing.

  13. Ironman –

True, but I already did a mystery about an animal that doesn’t move much. So… I’m trying to keep things fresh here.

  14. Stu –

How do you come up with names for characters? I’ve noticed some names are repeated between series.

  15. Benjamin –

I come up with names in many different ways. I collect names I like; I name characters after people I like; sometimes I make up names on the spur of the moment.

  16. Who is Sage? He has not been mentioned in any of the other books, and i’ve read them all. Is he new? Also, after book 6 will there be a book 7? Thanks

  17. Owen –

Yes, Sage is new. Authors are allowed to create new characters on occasion.

I do not know if there will be a book 7 yet.

  18. Hey Mr. Gibbs-
I LOVE your books SO much! I have read all of the FJ books and I am excited for the new one that is coming out in the spring. I love the character Summer, and Teddy is super funny! A lot of people that I know like your Spy School series, so I’m going to read those! Your’e a great author and super creative , too!

  19. Gogo Gadget –

I, like all authors, make up new characters for books all the time. You do not remember Sage from any of the new books because he did not appear in any of them. I created him for this book.

  20. Alex –

If I did know how the FunJungle series would end… it wouldn’t make much sense to tell everyone this way, would it?

  21. Legend says that if you respond really late he will respond. Anyway, do you have any plans for Teddy and Summer to break up?

  22. Moose –

No plans for an MBA 4 at the moment. If you go back a bit in my blog you’ll find a post explaining why.

  23. Stu
Is it possible to make a romantic ending for your last funjungle book? That would be cool (supposing Teddy and Summer maybe share a kiss)
