Get a free book from Barnes & Noble this summer — and vote for me!

Every summer, Barnes & Noble has a great reading program for kids — and this year’s was just announced.  In honor of the 2016 Olympics (I think), this summer’s event will be a reading triathlon.

Only, while a real triathlon involves swimming, cycling and running, this triathlon basically just involves reading books.  And then taking two minutes to fill out a form.  Everyone who participates can get a free book from B&N!

You can click here for details, but here’s the gist:

All you really have to do is print this form, fill it out and bring it to a B&N near you.

That’s it!

But, while you’re at it, B&N is also having two additional events.  They’re allowing you, the readers, to vote on your favorite hero and place from several different books.

And it just so happens that Teddy Fitzroy, the central character of my FunJungle series, is nominated for Best Hero!

The competition is very stiff, though.  Teddy is up against some formidable competition.  Like Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web, Despereaux from The Tale of Despereaux, Augie Pullman from Wonder, and two guys you might have heard of named Percy Jackson and Harry Potter.

I am very very flattered to be included with all these excellent writers (and there’s a couple others in there with me) — but I would also very much like to beat them.

So, while you’re downloading forms, please please please print this one too then fill it out and bring it to your local Barnes & Noble along with your reading log.

Also, note that you can vote more than once!  So why not vote for me multiple times?  You know I’d do it for you.

Happy reading!

  1. Hey Stu-

So the second link actually takes you to the same form as the log, not where you can vote.

Also, B&N doesn’t like 9th graders posing as 6th graders, which is why i can’t do the triathlon, BUT expect Teddy Fitzroy to gain about fifty million votes.

    Your #1 Fan,

  2. Done and nearly done! Also, I figured out your book schedule. 1 book in a series for every 3 total, although I’m pretty sure lots of other people have figured that out. Also, are you planning to ever make any other book series?

  3. Thanks for the heads up about Barnes and Noble. I had no idea they offered these things. My son is currently reading Spy School and has already requested that we get the others in the series. Do you have any recommendations for 4th-5th grade level reading? Thanks so much for writing something that kids actually WANT to read!

  4. Melonie –

My son is a big fan of the Ranger’s Apprentice series and the Artemis Fowl series. There’s also The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands, Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Framed! by James Ponti (though that won’t be out until August).

OK Well, sadly I’m with Justin- a 9th grader just cant pose for a 6th grader (OVER DRAMATIC SIGH) I would have dominated on the Triathlon….
HOWEVER Teddy will be voted for continuously, BUT PLZ DON’T KILL ME I will also be voting for one other favorite character D: I’m sorry! But I love Kyle Keely from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library ALMOST as much as I love Teddy, so I have to vote for him too…. BUT Teddy is going to get TONS of votes from me- so YAY! I love that we can vote for this and Teddy TOTALLY earned his spot up there!

  6. OH MY GOSH THE ALEXANDRIA PUBLIC LIBRARY IS A CHOICE FOR FAVORITE PLACE YES YES YES! I really wish it was real because its THE BEST LIBRARY EVER! If the “St. Smithen’s Science Academy for Boys and Girls” was an option I would’ve died from writing it over and over on entries. But if none of y’all have read Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, y’all totally should- especially my fellow book nerds out there! Thank you so much for telling me about this triathlon Stu!

  7. I don’t know how B&N would feel about a not quite 7th grader posing as a 6th grader…
But I will try to vote for Teddy if I can make it out to B&N… you and your character certainly deserve the award!

  8. Too bad I live in Canada and there isn’t such thing as Barnes and Noble….
But still, to be in the same competition as characters from very popular series, including the main character of a series that takes up the majority of the space in the top 1o most sold books(Harry Potter) and from other very popular series is amazing.

  9. Hi Stu! I am the person who gave you Skittles at the Brooklyn Book Fair and had my last birthday based on the Spy School books! I have never commented here but I just wanted to say that I love your books and could someone ( Not necessarily Stu )create a crossover Spy School and Funjungle book (LIKE MY NAME) and put the link here?

P.S. If you can see my email, Stu, PLEASE email me!

  10. Ben Ripley Meets Teddy Fitzroy –

Thanks for the Skittles! Has anyone out there doe a mash-up like this?

  11. Stu-
